Hello everyone. I've been riding for 50 years except for a 15 year break when my kids were young. Been on a Yamaha FJR 1300 for the past 9 years, but am looking at Tiger 900 GT. Any feedback?

I have got one and have almost done 6000 miles on it now. Can't really find fault with it but then I had a Tiger 800 before that.
Never ridden the FJR 1300 but I should imagine the Tiger is lighter and handles better.

Thanks everyone for the kind words of welcome. I did test drive the T900GT, it is a whole different deal than the FJR, which is a beast (145 HP and 650 pounds) and I love her dearly. But, at 200 pounds lighter and with all the tech, suspension, Etc., I think I've found a new love. Errr, did I mention that I've owned a half dozen Commandos in by earlier days....

    Hi GTB and welcome.

I have a 900GT and have ridden and rode an FJR quite a bit on Bloodbikes.
It's a difficult comparison to make.

FJR ~ getting on a bit now and if it was an earlier version it is under geared. Goes like stink, handles pretty well but can feel a bit cumbersome. I enjoyed riding it but didn't enjoy pushing it around my garage (there is a slope down into my garage so it was a manual 3 point turn to get back out again).
The panniers were also small (some say tiny).

The Tiger 900GT on the other hand ~ much more modern bike with cruise control among other things. Nice engine but not as smooth as the FJR's 'turbine'.
Tiger handles much better and is reassuringly nimble. Not as quick (or solid) as the FJR but has enough power to get you into all sorts of 'trouble'. A really nice bike to ride and a lot more choice in accessories, though, the windscreen doesn't give as much protection as the FJR.

If I was offered the choice between the two I would really have to think hard but I would definitely come down on the side of the Tiger which os much more modern and a good bit lighter.

    Hope this helps.

    Best of luck,

    Hamish.
