I went on a Prorider track day for additional ride training. The event was held at the Hampton Downs raceway on the club circuit 19 Jan 2023. We covered ride lines both clockwise (standard) and anti-clockwise. We also did trail braking practice and emergency braking at 90 and 100 kmph (60 mph) Weather was great, although hot, and I got home tired and sunburnt. The day was very enjoyable, but a Bonneville Speedmaster does not really have clearance for track riding I hope you enjoy it @Sandi T and apologises for the sound quality
Entry to the club circuit is behind the main circuit, sectioned off for training. This can be opened to extend the racing.
One of the instructors was Championship-winning bike racer Paul Pavletich. He has raced both road bikes and dirt bikes over the past 50 years, is still actively involved in road racing and recently was still the NZ Classic Motorcycle Racing Register’s F1 Champion. He was the CEO of Motorcycling NZ (MNZ) for nearly four years and a really nice guy He is well known for his superman leathers At lunch break, I got to record some of the cars practicing
Excellent, @Dartplayer! Thanks for sharing. Looks like a great day out. What was the best thing you learned or experienced?
I think having to emergency brake at 100kph/60 mph was the best experience for future safety. I can also now be semi-comfortable hanging off my bike for tight cornering without scraping my pegs
Excellent! That sounds like a great skill to gain for a day on the track. One of the best things about motorcycling is that we can always improve and learn new things. And the new things you gained from your track day are so cool because they are safety and confidence related!
That looks and sounds like a brilliant day out - a real confidence - builder as well as fun. Thanks for sharing your photos and videos.
