I'm looking for advice / previous experience with painting / coating garage floors, what whork best at a reasonable cost ?

I've just had a new driveway laid and powerfloated concrete base for my new workshop / garage and am looking at possibly painting or coating the floor, has anyone any good or bad experiences to share or reccommendations as I'd really like to keep it looking clean and tidy without the oil and grease marks associated with bare concrete floors !

What have you done with yours ?

The wife did mine. Think she used Aldi's masonary paint. She usually repaints it when I go on a bike trip.

I love working on carpet so much nicer on the knees, so I would say all you need is a off cut and some polythene soaks up the spills keeps the floor clean and when its stained and had it, just replace.
On the other hand if you coat your floor you dont have all the dust.

    Hi sprinter

I was thinking about the paint to keep it clean and stop the dust as its a new floor, and I'm just about to get started on the winter project (92 Trophy Restoration ), I think the carpet idea on top of the coating might work well though, but I'm hoping not to be on the knees as it'll take a crane to get me up off the floor ( awaiting the arrival of a bike lift )

Yeah but if it takes a crane now. Then you give in buy a lift for the bike, the next time your on you knees it takes 2 cranes,( I gave this some thought yesterday,on my knees, in the shed). So for now Im leaving the bike on the floor and getting some exercise

    Thanks DD

I have only painted old concrete floors before and used PVA as you did without any issues, however I asked the question as this concrete floor is literally 2 weeks old and having been power floated is very smooth.

Your point about etching the floor makes perfect sense to give the paint something to grab onto, painting very soon is the plan as once it gets oil in it getting anything to stick to it will be fun, and I don't want concrete grinding paste in me motors :(.

Not sure I could live with that blue, but I'll keep an eye on fleabay, biggest problem with that is the delivery cost for me but we will see.

@Dozers Dad I'm truly impressed with your statement about the brick acid as it really would burn in nicely and work.

@Oldyam What I use (considering I'm in the motortrade) is a few gallons of 'offshade 2k' acrylics mixed together to get an approx right colour, throw in as little as 10% hardner and it'll be solid by the morning to drive on and thinners won't affect it like 'air dried' synthetic paints.
If you ask for what offshades a motor paint factor has then they will be only too happy to sell cheap or give away. I cleared a 1m sq pallet of paint and it worked out @10p a litre!!
