Hi, new to the forum so hope I’m in the right place to get some assistance. I have a Tiger 885 (2000/2001… I think it’s the T709) & the tank has bubbles coming through the paintwork. I am aware it is not a metal tank (some sort of plastic material??) and have been told that over time petrol slowly eats away and eventually it springs a leak. What I would like to know is whether it can be reconditioned and brought back to peak condition? Maybe some sort of resin spray or ‘magic liquid formula’ to go inside the tank? I am in the UK so would be really interested to see if there are places where they can restore old (non metal) tanks.
If not, is it still possible to but a new tank for my model?
    Thanks in advance…

…also, need to add that mine is the fuel injection model. The Triumph number for my tank is T2402474. I have seen a tank for sale from a bike breakers yard with the number T2402465, it’s very similar & I wondered if they were interchangeable? Were there different variations of tank…?
Again, hope someone out there can assist.

@Tiger885 Welcome to the family. Yes there are companies out there that can restore tanks but i can't remember any. Hope one of the knowledgeable peeps on here will jump to the rescue. Yes it would help if you put your query in the builds and restoration section. But good luck mate. Do let us know how it goes. And if possible hit the upload a file button and show us all the beastie

Bought new beginning of 2001 & still love the ride even though I don’t get out too much these days. Only done 14500 miles & half of those have been in Spain (4 separate trips with a couple of mates a few years ago on amazing roads that really showed how good the Tiger is).
Thanks for the reply. I’ve made a bit of progress and have found a place that refurbs polycarbonate tanks, so am going to give him a try in the new year.

I know you can get tank liner stuff that you basically coat the inside of the tank on metal and plastic tanks but it is probably better to have it done by a pro. The tank you have seen is from a 955i Tiger 2001 - 2006 i believe, chances are that it would fit with a bit of modification.

Thanks Sprintdave, I agree it’s best to get it done professionally & I’ve managed to find someone who has explained what can be done to restore polycarbonate tanks. It’s a bit more expensive but well worth it.
I’ve not managed to find any ‘stuff’ that’s specifically for sealing non metal tanks, but would be interested to know if such a thing is available (in the UK)?
I heard back from Triumph UK this morning & they confirmed the tank I was looking at will fit my bike, but as I can get mine refurbished it kinda removes the need for a replacement. I might get hold of it as a spare (just in case…).
