Had a Tiger Explorer 1200 for several years. It came with an aftermarket Scorpion exhaust, and she sounded ah-mazing.

My new to me Tiger 800 is a much better size fit for me, and overall I love her, but I'm not loving the tweeting sound she makes. Looking at getting an aftermarket Scorpion for the 800. Just wondering if anyone here has done that, and if they liked the affect it had on the sound. Will she have a nice growl like my 1200 did, or will it not be as throaty because of the 800 vs 1200 engines? TIA

Have a look on YouTube there’s always lots of bikes with different exhausts on there :)

I've got an Arrow can on mine. Growls nicely with the baffle out. Could be my imagination but I'd swear she spins up quicker too.

I hated the sound with the original exhaust fitted. A sort of whiney, whistley sewing machine sound.

Good luck with whichever replacement you choose.

    Welcome in btw. :)

Hi,Iv'e had 4 800 tigers with a different can on each,Arrow,Leo vinci, fuel and a Scorpion, the scorpion was the best sounding one with a nice deep burble BUT all of them are nowhere as nice as they should be you would have to decat it for that and i don't think it will be as nice as a 1200,but i would go with the scorpion,iv'e got one on my current bike.

Thanks ya'll. Definitely leaning Scorpion, since I've had and liked it on my previous bike. Just wanted to see what the experience was with the 800. Was not expecting the 800 to be so "Tweety" after the nice sound my 1200 had!

This is an old thread, but it seems like a good spot for this bit of data.

I have been meaning to test the exhaust volume of the Delkevic 14" Stainless Steel Oval muffler I installed. I know it's a bit louder than the stock can, but I wanted to test the baffles I have for that muffler and see the variation between them.

I used the Iron Butt Association test procedure (thanks to the late Tom Austin for his diligence as the IBA's chief testing official for decades: we all owe you), which follows the SAE J2825 testing protocol, placing the test device 20" from the outlet of the exhaust pipe at a 45° angle. The IBA allows no more than 92 dBa at idle, 96 dBa at 2,000 rpm and, for 3 and 4 cylinder bikes, 100 dBa at 5,000 rpm. I used my iPhone running the NIOSH "Sound Level Meter" app, which is surely less accurate than an actual sound meter, but should be close enough for casual inquiry; I'm really only interested in the relative loudness of the three different configurations available to me, so absolute accuracy isn't really important.

The Delkevic produced the following results:

    Delkevic standard baffle: 85 dBa @ 2,000 rpm, 92.7 dBa @ 5,000 rpm
    Open - no baffle: 89 dBa @ 2,000 rpm, 95 dBa @ 5,000 rpm
    Delekvic USFS-approved spark arrestor: 80 dBa @ 2,000 rpm, 90 dBa @ 5,000 rpm

Happy to know that any of the configurations will comply with the IBA standard, which is very reasonable. The spark arrestor produces a nice, quiet exhaust note, very comparable to the stock muffler and the standard baffle, while about 5 dB louder at 2,000 rpm is only 2.7 dB louder at 5,000. I use the stock baffle most of the time.
