Anyone removed their mirrors on a Thruxton? Is it just a matter of undoing the bolts or is there a bit of trouble laying in wait within the handlebars? Interested in changing the stock mirrors to small circular items, possibly only one, to see if I can reduce turbulence at the front of the bike. Worked well on my old Guzzi
I've got both the stock mirrors on my R and theres no way I'd take them off, I love them. Mind you I have just come from a string of V twin super bikes the last one being a Duke 1098 that just showed shaking images of my elbows.
Finally got things sorted. Took off the original bar end mirrors and fitted a much smaller version with a convex lens sourced new from eBay for £20. This is what I found when I removed the originals. There is an interference collar which makes the fit very snug. http://s161.photobucket.com/user/d15nel/media/Thruxton/IMG_0836_zps9rafddgh.jpg.html] The new mirror comprises a bar end weight and then the mirror stem can be inserted either into the end or onto the top. I chose the top position. http://s161.photobucket.com/user/d15nel/media/Thruxton/IMG_0830_zpsb3gcc5gl.jpg.html] The set up is a bit fiddly as you have to position each component before attaching and adjusting the next part which involves a bit of trial and error to set the best adjustment. I was fortunate that I didn't need the expanding inserts as the Thruxton bars have a fixed threaded insert which the M6 bolt of the new kit fitted into. I did pack out the internal with a short section of hosepipe to add a bit of 'filler' and reduce the chance of any vibration. A short test run confirmed that all was OK and I'm very pleased with the new look. http://s161.photobucket.com/user/d15nel/media/Thruxton/IMG_0825_zpseqlgzxm5.jpg.html]
Thanks Crispey. Struggling with the link but this is the item no.282050732196 Do a search for similar items though as I subsequently found cheaper sellers although this source shipped them quickly and communicated well. They are also available in polished ali finish.
