Been riding my new Speed R for 3 weeks and something is bothering me slightly. Before the Speed, I had a Street Rx (arty snap attached). When I decided to change, the dealership lent me a Street RS for 24 hours. I pulled out of the dealership and sat there for a minute or so trying to figure out the RBW throttle, it had this weird delayed reaction response - it was in Road or Sport mode. One of the many things I just didn't like about the bike. When I got the Rx back, the bike just seemed so much more immediate and gutsy...anyway.... The Speed has the same soft throttle response and I don't like it, haven't tried it in Track mode yet, but when I got it, I put it in Sport mode and it's been there ever since, for daily road riding, can't see why you'd want it in any other mode...is it me?
I have a 15 Speed without RBW but I did ride a 16 which has it and although I didn’t feel any delay in response I didn’t like the “hunting” on part throttle when it couldn’t make up its mind where to set the throttle position. Is it set up right in terms of throttle balance, cable free play etc. May be worth getting it checked. Love the top pic BTW
Hi Mate, I owned a Street RS for about 15 months having changed from a 675R, TBH I didn't even think about the ride by wire throttle, not once? I only tend to notice stuff that doesn't feel right so must have been good?
I test rode a 2016 and didn't like the throttle response as it seems loads softer than my 2010 kept it in track mode for the test ride.. I bought an RS and it is great in sport.
I agree with what ya said about the street rs, the throttle is very snatchy, fells a bit on/off, I can't comment on the speed r never rode one. Maybe get your dealer to look at your map ask them to install a new one.
The bike is brand new - I don't think there's any problem with the throttle or the map on the Speed, I think it's just the difference between a throttle cable and a piece of electronics/programming. I do wonder sometimes whether in the quest for ever-increasing sales quotas, RBW throttles and 'rider-modes' are the thing and we all fall for marketing hype and over-rated unnecessary technology. When I was a kid, we put men on the moon with the equivalent of a pocket calculator. Daresay I'll get used to it. Otherwise a superb bike...
One big difference to the old cable throttle is that the RBW ones on the Speed Triple open faster/further/ quicker if you open the throttle quickly it responds as much to how quickly you move the throttle as to how far, I found with mine, so maybe try opening it quickly ?
Good point thanks, I've been running it in, so maybe that's it, I'll experiment - but not today, it's about -5° out there...
New boots on the bike, Diablo Rosso III, took it for a quick blast on some cold damp roads to scrub 'em in. Got to say throttle concerns seem a fading memory, bloody love this bike..!
problem with cable throttles is you can open the throttles more than the engine needs which slows down airspeed in to the engine the ecu sticks in more fuel so it dosnt go lean but the engine wont produce more power and emissions and economy arent ideal. RBW will open the throttles as much as the engine can use(adjusted for riding mode) and put in the fuel to match so becomes more efficient and integrates better with traction control and riding modes.

Agree with throttle response being slow in anything other than sport or track. Mine stays in sport unless I get caught out in the rain.
