I'm looking for a bike for volunteer blood running, which is mainly A1 and M1 in and out of Bedford Sth Wing, Hertford Lister, Luton and Dunstable, Watord General and the Hendon centre. I'm getting rid of both Sprints which are now impractically large/cumbersome/top heavy and with neck breaking ergonomics on the 955i since my onset of inflammatory rheumatoid arthritis. Tiger Xr/Xrx spec looks to fit the bill. Going to demo one tomorrow (Weds). I'm a 29" inside leg. With seat set in lowest position the sales chap says it fits his 29" inside leg feet flat to the ground. I used to have a Yamaha TDM850 which was extremely comfortable all round and similar in size I think to a Tiger 800. I do know there are some blood runners using Tiger 800's. So fingers crossed it does fit me. Then I'll probably be in the market for a recent second hand one as soon as I've off loaded the Sprints.
Blimey! I must be doing something wrong. I'm 31" inside leg and I can't put both feet down flat on my 800, I'm tiptoes at lights. Maybe my tyre pressures are too high!! Rode the low version and feet were firmly planted though. Might be worth a look see if there's one around.
Hi Ade, re seat height the XCX is significantly higher than the XRX. Hi Rich and Steve (Crispey), IF you find that the Tiger 800 is too high for safety you could always do what I did with my Tiger 955i. I loved the bike from day 1 but it was just a bit too high on occasions so I dropped the forks through the clamps 10mm and it has made all the difference. Now I can plant me feet and feel much more safe.
I tried out an XRx with the seat set in the low position. Then I bought it - well reserved it and handing the money over next week. 2015 registered ex demo. Nice bike. Now just got to find homes for my two Sprints. Both feet flat to the floor btw.
The standard seat height is 810-830mm, and set at the lowest I was able to stretch my legs to both feet as good as flat-to-the-ground wearing thick soled boots. Apart from the low rider version with its reduced suspension travel, there is also an optional low seat which cuts off 20mm. Looking at the bike at first, and needing to use the foot peg to climb on board, I was surprised by the ergonomics - arms and legs positioned nice and natural, not over stretching at all.
Ergonomics on these bikes is great especially I find for arm position - I've never had aching wrists with this bike. It stretches your legs a bit getting on and off with the panniers on though and I've hit my knee on the grab rail a couple of times.
my other bike is 860 seat height and I am only 28" leg,i have no problems but I don't like my feet flat feels like the bike has collapsed,i like to sit on it not in it and like the imposing high position.
