    Well guy`s & Gals....they`re at it again.....it`s insurance time again & it fills me with dread every year. This years especially bad as I`m taking off 1 bike & adding a brand new one.
    In what can only be described as an infuriating,frustrating & almost brought to tears afternoon I tried & failed to get a better insurance quote from my present company & to try & make light of this horrendous afternoon hunting I thought I`d compose the most stupid questions that I was asked over that afternoon.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Are you taking out cover to release your vehicle from a compound?
    Are you towing a trailer?
    Does your bike have a sidecar fitted?
    That`ll be £900 because you live in a high crime area?
    1500 mile limit on this bike (that`s 4.1 mile per day on a brand new bike)
    We cannot find your bike on our database (despite it already having insurance running)?
    If it`s not in a locked garage & is stolen less than 500 meters from home your not covered.
    As it has up rated brakes, we will have to ask the insurance company whether it will be ok to insure you but they are closed now so will have to contact them in the morning?
    It has a £600 excess on all bikes.
    What is the biggest cc bike you have ridden in the last 5 years?
    The non fault accident your wife had in your car last November...How much were the repairs?
    The reason your insurance has gone up is because it is perceived that you may have an accident on your new bike due to it being er new & unfamiliar to you, (despite me riding for 40 years & probably had at least 10 new bikes in that time)
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    And so the excuses go on & on & annoyingly on

    It is an absolute joke what insurance companies are doing to motorcyclist`s that have a clean license & security that North Korea would be proud to have. It`s as if they have grouped everyone together & bad risk is easier to be perceived than good. What is more frustrating is that there is F~ck all we can do about it.

    FOR GODS SAKE........HELP US ALL SOMEONE!!!!!!!!!

    Oh dear! Not looking forward to renewal time as I am actually away on the bike in Spain on renewal date so I will have to sort before I go. Reluctant to change insurers halfway through the trip as it may cause me a problem so won't be able to do the traditional shop around.

    When I changed from a Street 675R to the new 765RS last year my existing company would not cover me on the new bike. I had to cancel old policy and lose a years NCD in order to get insured, which fortunately didn't matter as I already had the max you can get.

    I agree with you Thruccyboy that the insurance companies, even those who are supposed to be bike specialist ask the most ridiculous questions.

    What makes you laugh is that (as you correctly say) even the so called biker friendly insurance companies are ripping us off. How can you get a discount for belonging to say MAG but the £250 almax chain & lock set you have give you bugger all???? I have maximum NCB thats 40 years of safe riding but can only claim 9 or 12 max. Insurance should have a written break down (which is what I nearly had ringing round) stating exactly what security you have is giving you what discount because I think it gives you sod all to be honest... I have the best I can assure them of that but it matters diddly squat. You`d get a better discount for belonging to the local tennis club. Yes, having best security may stop your bike being stolen which helps you but the sceptic side of me says that it also protects them, except your paying for their protection by forking out on top security.

    Someone out there must see a business opportunity for safe,claim free bikers instead of this un-trusting bunch that pull our pants down at every opportunity....The chances are are that you will be hit by an uninsured driver & all he/she will get is a £150 fine & 6 points on a licence they dont have & are ever likely to have....it is absolutely pathetic.

    Just got mine in as well. This is the first time since i moved away from Carol Nash its come in at a reasonable price.
    for both bikes €249 . If i was still with Nash it would have been at a silly price until you phoned them to say you found it cheaper . Then they match it. Silly game. Thank you Principal insurance for giving me faith again that your not all rip off merchants.:)

    That`s just a pipe dream Havit for me:(:(.
    Try £605 for 3 bikes with 40 years accident/point free riding + top security + being garaged....Makes me wanna give it all up at times.
    Good luck & I hope your low premiums continue forever & ever buddy

    Nightmare, absolute nightmare! I hate them all - they are just licensed bandits with everything stacked in their favour.

    I found when renewing mine, that the companies offering helmet and leathers protection for an extra £20 or so on top of your policy price often then increase the compulsory excess from say £250.00 to a staggering £700.00 to £1150.00 (in one case). Mmmm! let me guess, probably the cost of a decent helmet and leathers! :mad::mad::mad:

    Through broker Bennett's (Highway Insurance) Mine was £183 Fully Comp but no other benefits so no breakdown/legal cover etc, £600 excess. Have just noticed because I stopped the old policy early renewal will be before I go to Spain so will have the pleasure of comparing/being asked stooooopid questions at the end of May.
    Might give Carole Nash another go as they include breakdown cover, currently have a family AA cover for UK only but need European cover for trip on bike.

    Well....eureka.... Ive finally sorted my insurance.....just under £600 for all 3 which after some of the over dramatised quotes Ive had just for 1 seems like just pennies all though it obviously isnt sadly.
    Something needs to be done about this apparently unregulated industry, it`a a flipping nightmare

    I'm going with Bennetts next week on my 1250 Bandit, £90 fully comp, zero voluntary excess, £350 compulsary excess and 3 years no claims.
    I think I paid Bikesure about £120 last month for my America with 2 years no claims.
    Funnily enough when I tried to put two bikes on one policy last year they wanted about £500(Bikesure that is)

    That's one of the problems. You never know when you are dealing with an imbecile or if an imbecile is dealing with your account.

    I wish I knew how to challenge em??? They are slowly shooting themselves in the foot as new bike sales I think are down & maybe it's because like me people either pay the extortionate price or just buy older & forget about owning a new bike.... Especially if you leave near London where prices are dearest

    Tell me about it. They either spin up a crap about IPT gone up or issue with the post code. They pocket millions by ripping people off.

    There is no winning here or even fairness. I am all up for legal n all. But most things I have seen/heard is the legal requirements meaning extracting hard earned money from decent citizens (legally :rolleyes:).

    We can rant and rave all day and all night but these guys..... insurance companies and the legal system that supports it won't budge.

    Sorry for venting people. Now that I have got it out of my chest. ....I'm all good o_O

    Now I better get ready to apply for a bank loan to pay the extortionate insurance renewal :joy:
