Are any of you poets? Or have You ever written some prose of which you’re especially proud? I like the English language as a way of expressing sentiment... from the simple but clever ditty’s of Ronnie Barker, through to the stirring masculinity of Rudyard Kipling... I find that there is usually a graceful and powerful way of relating your ideas and feelings by considering the words you use, instead of just balling out the first idiom that appears on your cerebral cortex.
At the risk of being subject to finger pointing and name calling (not by me), I would ask to read your works, and maybe rise above lines drawn in the sand elsewhere in the forum.
Please, if this isn’t your kind of thread, don’t deface it, but take your contempt elsewhere...
if your works are bike related, then even better... otherwise, we’re in the lounge, we can have whatever subject area we like...

I’ll start... written for a friend killed on his bike...

    Blood Biker

    For Russell.

Ghost light, shines from the livery,

    Hi-viz harlequin.

The mark of an urgent delivery,

    On two wheels.

    Service, given voluntarily,

    Selfless action.

    A reflection of their humanity,

    On two wheels.

    A life taken too early,

    Fatal accident,

    is theirs to bear sorely,

    On two wheels.

    Lives touched, unknown,

    In his service.

    Appreciation by hundreds shown.

    On two wheels.

Nice one! Being a blood biker myself, puts it perfectly. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to attend Russell’s funeral but our region was represented.

This one is doing the rounds... I can’t corroborate the back story!

Joshua Dyer (aged 14) was tasked at school to write a poem for Remembrance Day. An hour later (without any help) he produced this.

    One Thousand Men Are Walking

    One thousand men are walking
    Walking side by side
    Singing songs from home
    The spirit as their guide
they walk toward the light milord
    they walk towards the sun
they smoke and laugh and smile together
    no foes to outrun
    these men live on forever
in the hearts of those they saved
    a nation truly grateful
for the path of peace they paved
they march as friends and comrades
but they do not march for war
    step closer to salvation
    a tranquil steady corps
the meadows lit with golden beams
    a beacon for the brave
    the emerald grass untrampled
a reward for what they gave
they dream of those they left behind
and know they dream of them
    forever in those poppy fields
    there walks one thousand men
