Had a boxload of gear for a customer in Hereford, so we decided to spend the profit on a couple of nights in Abergavenny and hopefully walk a couple of hills. Arrived around 1:00 so enough time for a scoot around the Skirrid. Only 3.5 miles but some good gradients for my old legs to get up. 360 degreee view at the top. As we got onto the ridge full of self congratulation, a lass strolled by with an enormous backpack. Thought she must be camping, but no-she was carrying her son, maybe 2-3 years old. Suddenly l felt not so worthy. She was good enough to take our pic too Peak at the back is Sugarloaf. Hopefully go up that tomorrow
Good job it wasn't Liverpool - 'taking a boxload of gear to a customer' has a slightly different meaning there ......... Nice photo's. Same again tomorrow, then, please.
Just about-most of the descent was done in some pretty sharp hail showers, but as you can see from the last pic, on the drive to the hotel we enjoyed a lovely sunny end to the day.
Sold Speed Triple last month, so just my Bonneville left, which I really hope to keep. Might take it in next week and get an mot, tax it from 1st March. I'm looking at an overnighter in N Wales if I can line up all the ducks. I've neglected this fabulous little corner of the UK for far too long.
Some great running and walking to be done round there - looks like you had a good day (much more energetic than my day at work, anyway, and what's not to like about being outdoors!). Enjoy the rest of your trip.
Well, we did indeed go up the Sugar Loaf today, and it was very nice. A few stiffish climbs, but after yesterday most of it felt like a walk down to the shops Hotel wifi is having a bit of a strop, pics at the weekend
On the skyline you can just make out the flat top of Pen y Fan-highest peak in southern Britain. Sugar Loaf at the back. Peak is totally different shape from this side. Our route up took us through this little boulder field. A little bit of very easy scrambling.
Over the pinnacle.... Up to the trig point. Best seats were taken! Behind that ridge is Offa's Dyke, for centuries the English/Welsh border. Pretty much still is as far as l know
Some spectacular scenery and vast views, Smilinjack. Such unique landscape and so different than what I'm used to here in the desert. Thanks for sharing these photos with us.
