Hi folk. I have an issue with these chain adjusters. I don't know what the previous owner did with them, but they aren't right imo. The left hand one does not pull or push and is loose. Is there something missing? On the parts page, it shows a circlip. Where does that go? You see the alignment groves are way out but the alignment is spot on with the tool I use. Any thoughts?

It looks to me that the adjusters are on the wrong sides of the bike, the grooves should be on the outside so that they can be compared to index marks on the swing arm. From the photos I cannot see anything else wrong.

Unfortunately to rectify the issue it means taking the axle out and that in turn means taking one silencer off so that the axle can be removed.

Yes, they are. Bloody plonkers. The left-hand one has a gap as well

I’d say the circlip should go on the bolt inside the adjuster so it can pull the axle rearwards to tighten the chain.
The circlip groove should be easy to see?

    Edit……
Scratch that. Just watched a YT video on the old style chain adjusters and the circlip is on the outside of the adjuster under the head on the bolt

Thanks. Looks like the left one has the clip, like you said, but inside the adjuster seems to not be butted up upto the back, where the bolt goes through. I'll just buy a new bolt next week.

Could be that the circlip is not engaged properly in it's groove, hence the slack on the left side adjuster, and the circlip appears to be missing on the right side adjuster. The bolt should be held captive in the adjuster bracket to enable adjustment both ways. I suspect the right side one will only tension the chain but will not back it off ?
