Hi there im ben from preston Iv bought a triumph trident 900 1 owner only 5100 miles Now apparently its the only uk registered bike on a t plate first registered 29/06/1999 No she got light corrosion as shes been sat 7 year But im woundering if theres anything more to the bike (owner was telling me it was a japan test bike but not sure how true that is) Reg is t372hcw Regards ben
It Looks a fairly early model. The Vin number can give a good idea to its production date. the factory has no records as they were lost in the factory fire. mine is a 1098 from 1st batch in sept 91 looking at yours production maybe mid- late 92.
That's an early Trident with the grey engine casings - the later ones had black. Your bike will be a 1991 to 1994 model (I'm happy to be corrected by Steve on this) and not a 1999 model.
+1 on both the above. I think it has a starter sprag clutch cover just visible on top of the crankcase just below the carbs which would date it to 1994/95 or earlier. By 1995 model year that cover had gone. Do not try to start it with an iffy battery or you may well end up having to remove that cover and start replacing oily bits inside. Silencers denote an early model year as well. Very early!
This is what im trying to find out This is a one owner bike kev i worked with for 3 years know him closer to 8 He is the bikes only owner
7 Yeah its good to find out Unfortunatly i dont think im going to verify the other part of the story shame really Although being on this forum iv never really taken much notice of triumph but theres some very very nice machinery
They all do it! Honda will strip other jap and European models, so will any other manufacturer. That early there are several mods need to be done. Change the banjo bolt on the head from the external oil way and remove the external oil pipe to the balance shaft. All done to increase oil pressure to the crankshaft
not sure on those figures. end of 91 they were on 100 units per week. 25/day Mon though Thu Fri was catch up day. in 92 numbers were ramping up slightly but only 200 production days give 5000 min. 3098 units is very low (only 124 production days)
That's true slow start but yes slow start but by late 91 was 100units/week. that was figure given to me by the factory when I went there in Nov 91.
Its not the bible. I know many mistakes in it but that happens. I think every article i've helped write when I read it there are lots of mistakes. My name is spelt wrong in the credits lol Too may quote from books. I was there at the time. the earth was made in 6 days. Its in a book!
Ok so I know nothing and you know it all ............... anything else you want me to say, I'll stop posting from now on, sorry for treading on your toes
+1 with the above! The letter 'N' in you number corresponds with 1992 - mine is 1995 with 'S' in the same position ('91M, 93P, 94R, 96T etc.). It does take a bit of finding though!! And even then on one site it gave the 10th digit as the model year (doesn't make sense) instead of the 11th digit (which does!).
How do I read my VIN ? Using this as the example: SMTTF600MGX100001 SMT Manufacturer ID, i.e. Triumph TF Model type - Sprint ST=TF600 600 Model number M Motor Number - equates to engine config (#cyls*bore/stroke): A=4*76/55, B=3*76/55, C=4*76/65, D=3*76/65 ....
