Prior to lockdown I had my 2016 ST serviced at an authorised dealer and has since been garaged whilst we're not allowed out of the house. Today I gave the bike a wash and noticed some annoying fingerprints on the speedo glass that weren't coming off. I removed the headlight and speedo with no issues (I've sprayed the instrument bezel black, so had done this before), then removed the speedo's perspex to clean it. Immediately I realised I'd ballsed up! There is evidently some form of film that lines the inside of the perspex, probably to stop it fogging up... Even attempting to wipe away the fingerprints with a cloth resulted in scratches to the film. I ended up having to clear the whole perspex of this film; I'm now left with the speedo's perspex that's severely scratched up and looks pretty awful (photo added). So far I've only been able to find whole speedos for sale on eBay and on Triumph Parts websites, not just the plastic and perspex piece I need. At £600 a go, I'm not in a position to buy these! Does anyone know if it's possible to buy a replacement perspex part, for a Street Twin speedo? Thanks in advance for any help!
Don't know the definitive answer but two things spring to mind, maybe scrapers of someone on here or the Street Twin F.B. groups may have one form when clocks have been changed etc. There are two F.B groups I'm a member of for S.T. might be worth joining and asking if you do Face-ache!
I don't know if this would work, but it maybe you feel nothing to lose giving this a try, so do your own research and if possible, try a test area. Plastic apparently can be polished smooth with Brasso. Another option could be to mask any etching with a light tint spray, that risks making the display hard to read though.
Resurrecting an old thread but I have a similar need to the OP. My "glass" is cracked and do I could do with the top transparent piece to make my clocks good. Any body have a source or scrap clocks with a good bit? I can only find glass covers online but I want to replace not cover up to ensure they are waterproof. Anyone help with ideas?
