I'm looking for some help please. I am a new Sprint GT owner and, mistakenly, removed the chain side nut thinking this was the one for wheel removal. I now know it was the other side. My question is, can I re-use the nut (I believe it has a tab to re-use). Is it recommended? And what is the torque?

    Thanks

I have seen it reused, is the stake point ok or splitting/cracking?

stake point looks ok. It has a very shallow dent and came off quite easily

I know a lot of modern fasteners (especially on cars) are made of cheese....
but i have 40 year old nuts & bolts that have been reused countless times on my bike and they haven't fell off yet.

    It's a 46mm stake nut that the manual says replace everytime. And it's 16 quid + p and p.

After all they have to make some more money somehow...so why not add "this item needs to be replaced every time its removed" excellent strategy...
    if people believe it.;)

They will always err on the side of safety saves any law suits when this has clearly been pointed out. If you are worried just retorque with a little dab of thread lock on there..

But that isn’t a stake type nut, just castellated for the retaining clip.
Regarding the stake type nut it’ll be fine if torqued correctly and the stake position is in a different place, it was when I took mine off to check the hub bearings recently.
