    Hi Guys,
Being new to Triumph's, I am not sure if I have a problem?
When going into first from neutral, I get a fair old "clunk" as the gears engage. Also changing up, there is a bit of a clunk, is this normal?
The clutch works well and appears to be adjusted ok.
I did notice this more after a long run two up yesterday. Not sure if it got "worse" as the day went on or if it's my imagination?
    Your thoughts?

    Cheers,
    Pete

    Hi Dozers Dad,
It's mostly the lower gears and going from neutral. The chain might be a bit on the slack side but the bike has only done 3500 miles, that's why I wondered about clutch adjustment. Need to check out the adjustment on both clutch & chain.
    Will report back.
    Thanks for the help.

    Cheers,
    Pete

The change into first you do get a bit of a clunk but the others from what I remember were fine.
As has been suggested check the chain tension and condition of the chain (shouldn't be in bad nick considering the age of the bike)
One other thing I would suggest is if you don't already have one is to get an aftermarket C spanner for adjusting the eccentric adjuster. The one in the toolkit is terrible.
I bought this one on eBay for when I had the Sprint http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Triumph-C...451776?hash=item3d38976840:g:bq8AAOSwzqFY9Hp1
Fits nicely in the top box when away and works much better than the toolkit one.

    Hi mate
Was just talking to a mate today telling him that although my gears can sound a bit on the noisy side the changes themselves are very positive and smooth
As dozersdad and gary said make sure everything is adjusted as it should be
This is my first triumph as well it's a speedmaster and all bikes sound and behave differently

Low oil level can affect how the gears engage on most bike's, and on some the noise is louder as there is less sound damping.
    Cheers capt.

some oils are better than others too but in a bike with such low miles i would say its not that. adjustment is favourite here, Sprints can be a bit finicky, have seen this in other forums too. make sure the adjustment is spot on as in the book and it should be fine. I think there is an adjuster at both ends of the cable if you have run out of adjustment at top end. chain if loose or tight can cause bad problems too as stated previously

Thanks for the advice gents, I'll check out all your suggestions and get back to you. Off on holiday for a week (not on the bike!) so it will be after than before I get a chance.
    Cheers,
    Pete
