    Hi,

Can anyone help me. I have a 2012 Speedmaster. Would like to fit the America forks in place of the standard. Is this straight forward and what would I have to replace (other than the forks).

    Cheers

Hi Egg & welcome to the forum
Who came first? You or the chicken?

Anyway, with regards to your question, here is a comparison across the 2012 Triumph America & Speedmaster....

2012 Triumph AMERICA vs 2012 Triumph SPEEDMASTER in Motorcycles

    Can i ask...... WHY?

Fork wise, looking at the description, they are both Kayaba 41mm forks, the America has stainless steel polished upper shrouds where as the Speedmaster doesnt & the Speedmaster has painted fork lowers opposed to the America having polished ones. The frames look identical so the rake angle should be identical in theory, unless they have different upper & lower trees, which is possible as there appears to be a slight difference in wheelbase between to the two models?
However, the ball ache could start & the costs run away with themselves when it comes to the front wheel. The America has a 130/90 tyre on a 16" x 3" wheel where as the Speedmaster has a 100/90 on a 19" x 2.5" wheel.
So chances are you would need the America front wheel or knock up some spacers to retain the narrower Speedmaster front wheel. However i think you would need to use the America front wheel (which i might add wont match your Speedmaster rear wheel) as the front fender mounts are lower on the America forks because it has a smaller wheel. Then there is the lining up of the caliper & brake disc to consider, which may slot straight in or could require some spacers machining to align them correctly.

Personally, i think the parts list could grow & become rather expensive versus the gains.... If any?

Anything is possible in life providing you have the time, knowledge & the money.

Thanks for the quick reply. WHY? really like the look of the shrouded forks, so only cosmetic. If it was an easy job maybe worth doing, but if a complete ball ache then will have a re-think. It took me a long time to decide between a Triumph & HD, but so glad I went Triumph route. Just want to get started working on the bike now.

Perhaps a better option could be, & i have no knowledge on this matter, sourcing a set of second hand shrouds & see if they fit on your forks? If they do, you could always get your fork lowers polished to match the shrouds?

Post up some pictures of the Speedmaster mate. What other sort of work have you got in mind for the Speedmaster apart from the forks?

    Quick update for you Egg...

From what i can see on my America & doing a bit of Google research, the upper shrouds have rubber seals on them top & bottom & simply slide over the fork tubes & are held in place (sandwiched so to speak) by the top & bottom yokes. They have no function whatsoever & are purely there for cosmetic reasons....

The bottom shrouds yet again, simply slide over the fork tubes & are held in position with 2x screws per shroud & fastened to the underside of the bottom yoke. Check your bottom yoke to see if you have these bolt holes already machined. If not, it would be simply a case of offering the shroud up, marking where the bolt holes need to be, drill & tap out some holes. Job done!....

Standard fitment shrouds pop up on ebay etc from time to time as a common mod is to remove the shrouds altogether & have nothing between the yokes & fit rubber boots to the lowers, giving it that old school look!

Alternatively, i think Triumph sell a chrome shroud kit for about £160-£170... Gulp!

I will look into what you suggest. I want to chop the backend, single seat, I like the HD idea of rear lights built into indicators to get rid of rear light, side mount number plate, shrouded forks (if poss), maybe headlight change, better pipes (any suggestions for some decent slip on's), then see what happens after that.

I have slashcut long TORS fitted to my 2007 America, a massive improvement in sound over the standard sewing machine noise. Alternatively there are cocktail shakers, bombers etc. Google is your friend!
Maverick Customs do nice single seats (mine is a standard seat, re-trimmed in dark red/black leather) & bobbed rear fenders if you dont fancy cutting your own one up.
