Had my Speed Triple RS second hand this week, first time I've gone to head out on it today and won't start. Lights and screen all come on but when I hit the ignition switch one of two things happen. Firstly, nothing at all. Or the the screen instantly switches off.

This is the most modern bike I've owned, so was wondering had the battery drained somehow in the 5 days it's sat in my garage since riding it home. Or am I missing something simple? Or is it potentially a bigger problem?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you could have a duff battery or maybe a loose battery connection.
    How old is the bike?
Welcome to the forum BTW :grinning:

Bike's a year old with 3500 miles, going to get the battery off and on an optimate later so hopefully that'll sort it. Thank you

Not that old for the battery to go!
Hopefully a full charge will make the difference.Good luck

Can you put a multimeter accross the terminals and get a reading on its voltage?
12.8+ with engine off is good
    anything below 12.3 is trouble
Then try putting the multimeter between the positive terminal and the wire and record what draw there is without the key in the ignition to see if anything is pulling voltage while standing still

Sounds like a loose battery connection, or bad battery. Regarding the age of the bike, loose connection is most likely. Perhaps previous owner had an optimate and didn’t tighten the battery connections after removing it before trade-in?

I've found it very beneficial to leave a battery on a trickle charger when left for any length of time, alarms do seem to sap them pretty quickly.

Just wondering as I’ve sometimes left mine for a month with no problems.

Perhaps no alarm vs alarm installed? I don’t know, I haven’t got an alarm. Bought a Rottweiler instead

Ah good point!! I specified no alarm as they’ve caused me more problems than they’ve solved. Should of noticed that but in your post!

Good morning Osprey and welcome in. Best of luck with your battery problem. That should be an easy fix, either way!

No alarm on the bike. Think that it's been sitting awhile and then only had a short ride home from the dealer.

Good call.i had a similar problem on a car I owned, turned out to be a loose battery lead.Worth checking.

Got it charged and I'm out

Engine management light on now though, which I was expecting. Also the quickshifter has stopped working
