Has anyone managed to do this without removing the rear wheel? Failing that can someone give a total novice instructions on how to remove the rear wheel or point me to a video? I have a single sided paddock stand so I’m assuming the wheel can be removed using that. Also will the chain need adjusting if I remove the wheel? Thanks
Looking at the hub I wouldn’t imagine the chain adjustment will change when you remove the wheel. Let us know how you get on?
I have removed the hugger with the wheel in place, it’s a bit fiddly as there is one screw that is partially hidden and you need to bend the hugger to get at it. Putting it back on is the worst but it can be done, you need a fairly long tool (ooooerrr missus) to be able to tighten the screw. If you still want to take the wheel out the only thing I would add having watched the vid is that rear wheel nut was nowhere near tight enough if he could undo it with a spanner, albeit a long one. Best advice, get a good fitting socket and a breaker bar, and a friend! The friend will hold the rear brake on so the wheel can’t turn, I do this while the bike is still on the ground on the side stand, then up on the stand, wheel out, chain adjustment untouched. Ta dahh!
Thanks for all the tips. Rear wheel removed within 10 minutes this morning and rear hugger swapped for a carbon one!!
Failing that it’s either 145 or 146 but then you’ll have to make sure the spring clip can be located in the hole in the axle.
Yeah the circlip went back in no problems!! One of those bolts on the hugger was still awkward to get to even with the wheel out the way!!
