Those who have replaced the factory front springs in their forks (America / Speedmaster) with Progressive springs, what length spacers did you put in? Second question what weight or grade fork oil did you use?
You need to measure from the top of the springs to the top of the stantion when its fully extended, how much did your original spacers extend above stantions ? Start from there. You can use washers to adjust if thats not enough, or do trial and error using plastic conduit until you are happy then trim the spacers to the length you are happy with. Oil go for std see what you think, heavier weight slows rebound/compression what do you want to do, to thick also makes stiffer more ridgid. Cheers capt.
Exactly as Capt says. You can buy adjustable pre-load caps to replace the originals if you like adjusting things. If you speak with your spring supplier and tell him your weight, riding style etc. they should advise pre-load and oil viscosity.
Thanks for the replies and advice, I had the same thought about the heavier grade fork oil but thought I'd ask. It is a cruiser so I just wanted to firm the front up a bit more but I don't think I'd need adjustable pre load caps but I am going to investigate them to get more details before a final decision on them.
