So after the passing of my partner I decided fairly recently to go back to work. Being at home all day and especially with it being winter has done my nut in. This evening I heard that I’ve been successful and will be returning to my previous company in a similar IT role to what I had before. It’s going to be nice earning again, but on the flip side no more last minute trips by bike or motorhome except for weekends. So now officially Unretired.
Yes I know what you mean. Duck. But this could mean me having enough spare cash to buy a Rocket. (Probably just the firework ). If it doesn’t suit me I can always retire again properly.
Good on you Nikki if that’s what you want to do But that w*rking thing ain’t for me Hopefully see you soon.
I have James. Probably around an hour, but once it moves towards spring, I’ll use my bike and shave 15 minutes off that. It’s around 30 miles door to door. Also once I’ve settled in I’ve got the opportunity to work from home a couple of days per week or work from our other office 30 minutes away.
Absolutely. I’ve got a few trips planned for this year either with the bike or motorhome and I’m not planning on cancel any of them
Really sorry to hear about the fundamental reasons for your decision to return to work, BC, and do sincerely hope that it turns out well for you. One of the great things about getting back into employment is that, with luck, a fair wind and a reasonable employer, you might have the opportunity in the not too distant future to elect to go part time or job share - or similar - should you find that retirement does have attractions that you might not have realised you were, at the time, enjoying rather than enduring! I'm VERY fortunate that I retired from full time work but took up some 'part time casual' employment delivering high end cars to customers all over the country - more paid enjoyment than employment. This allows me to earn a little money, travel the country - though the shine does come off that a little when returning on our less than ideal train system - and meet some really nice people. The important point is, I guess, that whatever you do it needs to be enjoyable to at least the same degree as your current lifestyle (i.e. you're not just doing it for the money or to get you out of the house ... or somesuch!) and that includes the commute! Sorry, that all sounds a bit preachy - it's not meant to, honest! It's your life and I'm pretty sure I'm in good company on here wishing you every happiness, success and enjoyment from whatever path you choose! Good luck!
Good luck with that, Nikki. Happy for you. And if you get bored on weekends give me a a shout and we could do a Sunday ride-out! Might give you a meal as well after...
