Help please. I own a 2001 Thunderbird 900 and since purchasing it I have never been able to read the oil level accurately as the sight glass is quite stained / dirty on the inside . Is there any way that I can clean the inside of the sight glass. Seven years of diligent regular oil changes has made no difference.

    Thanks
Hi Dougie. Thanks. It's an absolute pain. The only accurate way of checking is to drain and measure the oil, then 're fill. Fortunately it's not heavy on oil.
Yes, great roads, and doing the NC 500 next month. A bikers heaven . Can highly recommend.

Not sure if the Thunderbird is different but the sight glass should be removable. It certainly is on the Bonneville T100.

You don't even have to drain the oil, just put the bike on the side stand and you should be able to unscrew it. All things being equal it probably just needs a good clean!

On the T100 the sight glass can be removed with a spanner. On some bikes the glass is held in place with a circlip or screw in frame.

That's great news. It's certainly looks the same, but I thought it may be araldited into the block. I'll try a firm unscrew and hope for the best. Many thanks.

Unfortunately sight glass is way below casing, on right side of block, effectively the sump.

There is a sealing washer behind the sight glass.
