Service manual cock up?

    So. Have a need to check head stem bearings. This is what the manual says..... Now I'm not a complete moron, but isn't there some steps missing?
    I'm no mechanic but good with following procedure. And this sucks! All I want to do is adjust if needs be and will check if they're fubar.
    A little help please?

    Hello Vlad, you're right it's poorly written, but it is correct. The idea is to fully take off the torque applied at a previous service; then apply 5n/m of torque, reduce by 45°, then check for play.

    Yeah it sounds cock eyed to me lol. Just asummed it would be a castellated nut and you'd tighten incrementally and check till free play gone. I've used Haynes manuals to change front suspension and control arms and all sorts on my wife's cars with basic tools and a few jacks, so I'm fine following instructions. I shall have a go at the weekend and see if it all works out!:confused:
