    evening all,

im after some advice for security for a motorbike....
i think im going to be going for a sprint as to sitting on a few and feeling good, test ride booked in few days, but im after a GOOD chain and disc lock.
can you guys and girls recommend some good one that would possibly bring the insurance down.

so far been quoted £552 for the datatag and a abus granit 8000 on a 2013 model. the chain would be additional for my piece of mind.

    Hello Mate

Almax chain and Squire locks have good ratings. Disc lock, get an alarmed one.....ABUS from sportsbikeshop.

An insurance approved alarm such as Meta or Datatool S4 will go some way. But if your bike is not regularly used, you need to consider leaving it on an optimate charger to stop the alarm from draining your battery.

    All the best buddy

Tried finding what I use but it's an old oxford chain and bolt lock from 8 years ago... But whatever chain and lock you go for the oxford ground anchor should be on your list and maybe even a tracking device? I've got a cheapish £30 GPS tracking device off Amazon literally put in a pay as you go SIM with a tenner credit and if you text the SIM's number it'll send you the coordinates back.

Hi Gav and welcome to the forum.
I was lucky when I got my Bonnie as it had a Datatool alarm fitted.
But I also use the standard steering lock, Kryptonite disc lock and Masterlock chain/lock.
I like roadsprockets idea of the tracker.

Please provide a link or name of this product!? Every little helps :D

I am also stuck on what disc lock to buy next Gav so thanks for this thread.
Think I will go for an alarmed one as posted above, especially if it's insurance approved.

Is it street or front garden parking? If garden try the ground anchor, if street , have you got a gutter drain where you park? You could put a d lock through the grate and then anchor the bike to that with a chain. It's just going to make it harder for the scumbags

I use a OXFORD Anchor Force Ground Anchor with a OXFORD HARDCORE MOTRCYCLE CHAIN LOCK THATCHAM SOLD SECURE
    http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=191883573095&alt=web
Which I put through the frame then I have another Oxford ground anchor on the front. Try and keep the chains of the ground so it's much harder to use bolt cutters. Plus 2 disc locks.

Check out the Almax security website I think its called "wall of shame" or something like that....it`ll tell you all you need to know to make your mind up over security chains...... There are locks & chains there that are all easily cut using bolt croppers in under 10 seconds!!!!!. Almax chains are all but un-croppable & that says a lot about their quality. I purchased one with a Squire CEN 6 (SS65CS) padlock (highest rating for locks) & fitting it round my bike is like wrestling with a grizzly bear...it really is that strong. Nice guy there too will discuss your needs too if you ring him. When I ordered 2.5 meters of chain from his website he actually telephoned me to ask why I needed such a long length of chain. Go Almax, you wont be disappointed my friend:cool::cool:

Our latest chain is the ALMAX IMMOBILISER SERIES III; it has NEVER been bolt cropped. By anyone. Ever. The only damage was to the bolt croppers!

Which chain do YOU want protecting your bike?

Squire MC4 Chain (RiDE Best Buy)?
Hand Bolt cropped in approx 63 seconds by Zanx and his amazing pantz.

Luma Kit Solido Duo (RiDE Recommend)?
Hand Bolt cropped in approx 35 seconds

Abus Granite City Black X-Plus (RiDE Reccomend)?
Hand Bolt cropped in approx 8 Seconds

    Abus Granite Extreme?
Hand Bolt cropped in approx 12 seconds

    Oxford Monster?
Hand Bolt cropped by Peter Walker of M.A.G (who had never cropped a chain before) in 3 seconds

    Oxford Boss?
Hand Bolt cropped in approx 22 seconds

    Kryptonite Fahgettaboutit chain?
Hand bolt cropped in 42 seconds.

All of these chains were also cut with the hydraulic bolt croppers at the NEC International Motorcycle & Scooter Show in between 8 - 12 seconds.

The Immobiliser Series III CANNOT BE BOLT CROPPED BY HAND or with the portable hydraulic croppers.

Remember - Not all security chains are created equal! To see just how unequal

No such thing as too much security, ok takes you a bit longer to undo it up but at least you are undoing it

I`m not sure where the guy`s at Sold secure/Thatcham get their times from if the guy`s from Almax come along & cut them in a fraction of the recommended time that Sold secure/Thatcham give:(:(

And I`d rather spend money on a tracker like this one than on a alarm....how many people really take any notice of an alarm anyway??? Once it`s gone, it`s gone....At least with a tracker well fitted & hidden there is a chance you`ll get it back, just dont put a sticker on your bike saying "Tracker fitted"

Don't tell your insurance company it's there does sweet fa to your quote.
But if you forget to arm/use it they will use that to avoid paying or reduce the payment.
They are nothing but a bunch of robbing bar stewards
