    Good afternoon my frugal friends.

This is todays money saving tip....

I have some friends in their 80's. They are loaded & part of the reason for that is they are "Careful" with their pennies! ;)

I popped round the other day for a cuppa & a catch up. They made me a coffee by boiling a mug of water in the microwave before adding the coffee/milk. I asked if they needed me to pick them up a new kettle? Thinking their current one must be broken?

Apparently it isn't? The explanation for the microwaved cuppa was this....

...."The kettle is 2200w & takes approx 4 minutes to boil. Even if it's only half full? The microwave is only 700w & will heat 1 mug of water in 2.5 minutes & 2 mugs in just over 3 minutes"....

I can't argue with the logic of faster & cheaper hot beverages. So I thought I'd share the idea.

Think of it as mpg on your bike. Who wouldn't like a 300% improvement in fuel consumption? :grinning:

I don't quite understand! Let me see if I have this right, to save the polar bears from extinction We use micro waves instead of kettles then send the kettles to the polar bears so they can make cups of tea to keep warm? Why can't they use their microwaves? PPPPPop in a PPPPpenquin too!

I guess I must not be bringing it to the boil then Tiglet?
No problems so far mate & I've been trialling the idea for roughly 4 weeks.

I will forward your link to my friends though. Just to be on the safe side.

It's a risky thing to do Jez.

I'd read a few years ago about someone who'd been seriously injured boiling water in a microwave and your thread jogged my memory, be careful.

They are both originally from right here in Northampton. The lady worked in the financial industry for decades. So they are very switched on when it comes to looking after the pennies. So the pounds take care of themselves!

I'm still using the microwave. 3 coffees so far today.
No exploding mugs, burnt hands or anything else untoward. In fact nothing but tasty hot beverages?

Been a busy lad today Tez. Only 3 coffee breaks all day mate. Lunch didn't happen until 16:10hrs!
Now I've gotta get cleaned up & dust off my sensible head from the back of the wardrobe where it normally lives (I have a board meeting from 18:00hrs-21:30hrs :worried:)
