Morning folks, I have a question regarding the SAI system on my bike, a 2015 Speed Triple S. While the bike is on SORN over winter I’m working my way steadily through a 12,000 mile service. I’ve got the airbox off to do the valve clearances, replace the spark plugs and throttle balance etc and reading the Haynes manual it describes a simple test of the SAI valve. Basically it states the valve should be closed and you should not be able to blow through it. By putting 12 volts across the contacts the valve opens and you should be able to blow through it. However, mine is completely the opposite, it is open and I can blow through it and when I put power to it it closes and returns to its open state when the power is removed? There is a small spring loaded plunger which moves freely against the spring so it appears that the valve is operating correctly, just in contrast to what the manual says. So, the question is, have any of you tested the SAI valve on a speed triple model years 11 to 15 and what was it doing? I’m aware I can remove the system, fit blanking plates, block the hose and turn it off in Tunecu but I want to leave it as it is. I like the popping on the overrun and in an attempt to preserve the life of the cat I want it on. I have a pal with a 13 year bike so could ask if he’d mind checking his just thought I’d ask here first. Cheers.

I take it was working before you started to dismantle bits. So I would leave it as it is probably working right and I feel it should open when powered up otherwise it would choke the bike. Never heard of anyone wanting to keep it on there. But each to their own. By all means use the Haynes manual but take every thing they state as gospel. They are good but not all that good.

Cheers Joe, yes it was running fine and I'm suspicious that the manual could be wrong. I think I'll get my pal to check his, it's only lifting the tank and removing one hose after all .

It doesn't hurt to check. But like we suspect that butterfly has to open to make the bike run properly.

Ok, so I checked the throttle balance today with Tunecu and I found that I was able to check the operation of the SAI valve as part of the tests available. The Haynes manual is wrong in its description and it is working perfectly well.

The throttle balance was only 10 units out on #1 cylinder and no amount of adjusting would get them all reading the same so as it was fine at that before I called it a day and left it at that.
