Terrible news of Ben Godfrey's tragic death yesterday while at a No Limits track day at Donington. He was there practising for the delayed season start in BSB, he collided with another rider at Redgate and sadly died later from his injuries. My thoughts & sympathies go out to Ben's family & friends. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-53134059
I must admit Wessa you really don't expect it on a track day. I don't know much detail about the accident, I understand he collided with another rider at Redgate. With No Limits now if you turn up with a race licence you are going in the advanced group, as I explained to them when I did Brands earlier in the year, just because I got a race race licence doesn't mean I am fast, but under NL current rules had I attended Donington yesterday I would have been in the same group as him, not sure that is a good thing?
Can see what you're saying, but in the past I've attended trackdays where because the only group with spaces was the novices, very fast racers joined that group. Not ideal. Having said that, the only person to have shunted me off on track was more of a novice than me. DS
Hey mate, I am not saying that is what happened in this case, I wasn't there, it was just an observation that very different levels of riders can be out at the same time. My first ever ride on last years Bandit race bike (all of 70 bhp & handled like a shopping trolley) was at Brands, I was in advanced group was all racers & had 1000cc Superbikes out with me as well as a few very quick 600 supersport guys, it was the most intimidated I have ever felt on the track!
Yep, basically, just got to accept that there is some inherent danger in doing this stuff. And keep your wits about ya and be lucky. DS
Bad news indeed. Track days can be as dangerous as racing at Oulton in 2013 there was a multi bike incident,5 bikes?, resulting in 1 fatality and a few riders were critically injured
