Touring Round The North Coast Days 1-2

Ok I shall make this short as there are a lot of posts about this, its mainly to show you what the roads are like

Flew up to Inverness and hired a car to drive round the North Coast.

Decided to go anti-clockwise as it seemed the normal thing to do as the East coast is less interesting so get it over and done with first.

We arrived around 3 so Day 1 was a short drive to Brora where we stayed the first night



Just a couple of stops on the way, Dunrobin Castle was one of them facing out to sea. It was closed but the grounds were open



24/03

Day 2 was a bit more adventuresome, heading up to Farr Bay Via John O'Groats A9 and A99



Here we experienced spring weather that you would expect from Scotland

Horizontal Blizzards driven by force 6-8 Northerly winds, sleet and sun and later Thunder and Lightning temps ranging from -1 to + 14






First port of call was Duncansby Head Lighthouse to have a look at the Duncansby Stacks. There was a bit of a lull in the Blizzard so we managed to see them at the cost of getting soaked to the skin





Having Changed our clothes we headed for a tea at J O'G

Weather not much better





Taking A836 to Thurso in search of a clothes drier and Lunch the weather cleared a bit and we were able to experience the fantastic scenery. So on to Bettyhill

 

Timings on the map can be multiplied by atleast 3 for stops to look at the view and take photos
