So, the dealer slightly scratched my right hand fork cap, ages ago now and didn't notice until I got home. I made it worse by trying to polish it out and now I'm just going to replace it. Do you really need to slacken off the top yoke pinch bolt before removing the cap, and if so what is the torque setting to tighten it back up, and the torque setting for the fork cap itself. Also, does putting some tape or something over the caps really protect them from the socket scratching them?

    Cheers

I'd certainly slacken the pinch bolt, quite a good chance of damaging the internal thread otherwise. :)

Yeah, thought you were meant to for that reason. No big deal, just need to find the torque setting to tighten them back up.
    Thanks
