Has anyone found any alternatives to the oem Tiger 1050 (06-09) rear brake caliper, can't say I've been impressed with it through the winter and now I've taken it off to service it's pretty Batteted.

Wondering whether to bother with the OEM or upgrade while I can - suggestions welcome

Personally I would do a thorough refurbish.

You are 90% of the way there. Get it back to bare metal externally as best you can before cleaning off with acetone (nail varnish remover - cheap in big bottles from the Supermarket) and re-paint with caliper paint in your chosen colour.

The internal bores and pistons can be polished up using Brasso. - itself a very fine abrasive - before replacing the seals. Lubricate the seals with brake fluid, refit pistons and dust seals then fit to bike and bleed. You may find a vertical bleed with wood on the jaws before bolting to the back end is a fast and effective way of eliminating air.

I have cleaned up plenty of old brakes this way. Provided they are not pitted internally there is no end of external corrosion you can overcome.

Awesome this is the way I've gone, fitted new dust seals last night, the oil/fluid seals were spotless

Pistons have polished up well and painted gold to match the front.

Cheers for the wood block bleed advice I'll try that out tonight
