Now peeps my two Bonnies have been laid up unless the sun comes out. Been reading all to notes about ethanol. As I always star and run them about fifteen mostly weekly does it still affect the tank and bits. Both bikes are running sweet after a week lay up for one and a month for the other. Regards Joe.
How old are you bikes? All vehicles, including bikes were designed to run on ethanol since the last 15 or so years. If a vehicle is to be stored for say more than 3-6 months or more, add a product called Stabil to the tank before putting it to bed.
Retired Fred Thanks mate. One is a 2010 the other is a 2018. I have Lucas safe guard ethanol fuel conditioner with stabilizers would that do the job. Regards Joe.
Dozers Dad. Thanks for that. I have the lucas condition so may just drop a capful in for safety sake. Kind Regards Joe.
Fuel injection vehicle's have pumps and filters , so unless the fuel has sat for a very long time , the vehicle will start and run. If it's fitted with anti knock sensors and broad band air flow sensors , it will probably run fine , but lack a smidgen of "power" as the aforementioned may reduce performance to make the vehicle run. It's carburettor's that "GUM" up , there's no Pressure (pump) to force fuel to flow ! Most fuel injection vehicle's will be back to full normal operation after a couple of fresh tanks of fuel have been put into them , flushing out any old fuels.
Well stated Capt, ethanol i will run in a fuel injection motor. I have learned the hard way not to use it in carberated motors, an especially not in 2 stroke carb motors. Ethanol is also an environmental nightmare once you can see the big picture, lots of green to be made though.
Never had problems with leaving cars or bikes over winter or even 12 months see other engine start after several years with no problems so in my eyes its always been a bit of an old wives tale. On the ethanol debate i since its hydroscopic unless unsealed its never going to absorb enough water to cause a problem...
