Chaps & Chappets Doing my first tours this year, buying kit, one thing I need your input on; puncture repair kit as I’m the king of punctures Buying a small compressor (Stop & Go) not sure what plugging kit, Stop & Go pilot mushroom kit or Dynaplug Any good / bad experience to share either way
Hi I have used the "Sticky string "type successfully several times on my bike and others when on a group ride. The last time was 50 miles east of Marrakesh in Morocco and only changed the tyre a 1500 miles and a couple of months later. If you use the "blue snot" puncture preventative I have found that not only does it not prevent punctures but it lubricates the sticky string and it is forced out and you are stuck buying a new tyre (in Portugal in my case). I carry a 12 volt compressor as the " Sparklet" cylinders may not be enough to inflate some tyres unless you carry half a dozen!
Stop n go gets my vote, carry it with me all the time Done about 5 repairs with it, and covered over 2,000 o. One 'teporary' repair before the tyre wore out Also done two on the same tyre I carry a few minutes air cannisters in the pack too, enough to get to 20psi
I carry a tire plug kit and use CO2 cartridges instead of a compressor to save on space. More compact and works well. I have fixed a flat on the side of the road before. If you decide to use CO2 cartridges, I recommend a refill test first. Let all the air out of your back tire then refill w/ the cartridges. It will take more than one. Maybe even 4 of them. See how many it takes to get to 32 psi and then carry 2 extra ones to be safe. And I carry the larger size CO2 cartridges. https://www.revzilla.com/product/st...MI_I_Hq6DS4AIVAh-tBh212gAoEAQYASABEgIPi_D_BwE
Mushroom plugs are better and what I use. And remember that any plug repair should be considered 'temporary'. Have a punctured tire patched from the inside as soon as possible. Don't use the plug as a permanent fix. Always safety first !!
