I am really sad that the Government has closed pubs. I 'get it', of course I do, but I think it was Hilaire Belloc - Frenchman, unbelievably - who said:

'Change your hearts or you will lose your inns and you will deserve to have lost them. But when you have lost your Inns drown your empty selves, for you will have lost the last of England.’

For now, at least, we've gone and lost them.

Well good riddance. I can go to bed now and not worry about drunken louts dragging out my plants and defiling my little border hedge. Not to mention the language and fighting out side my place all hours of the morning.
    Regards
    Joe.

No road but the sniffers probably you are right. But the pubs here are still open so I am stuck with the drunks. Just one pub and all of a sudden they boarded it all up.
    Regards
    Joe.

All of our restaurants, bars, and coffeehouses have been closed for dine-in customers since last Monday. :( I did just read today, however, that restaurants that provide home delivery can now also deliver alcohol! :grinning: Not that Mr. Sandi and I need more of that, mind you. Like others of you on the forum (and you know who you are), we have a supply that should last well beyond the COVID-19 societal restrictions and shut-downs. If it doesn't, heaven help us all. The virus will have won. :scream:

Well I really missed my Friday night out in the pub last night. Great cask ale brewed on the premises, cosy pub with coal fires, good mates, busty buxom bar maid with a lovely smile. It's going to be hard I have to say. I'm just going to stock up on bottled Black Sheep from Aldi.

Now I've heard of border collies of course, and as a reader of Viz back in the early 90's I remember Black Bag, the faithful border bin liner. But a border hedge? I cannot imagine going for a long walk with one of those by my side, constantly concerned about it worrying the sheep or making random enclosures. And how exactly does one defile one of those without getting splinters or (if it's a hawthorn) something worse??

Didn’t know you were a black sheep man? Thought you were a speckled hen?

I'm really pissed off about it, couple of us went out for a ride on Friday and stopped at a couple of cafes, every body was sitting outside and there were no problems at all.
Its a pity that the pubs can't do the same.
If boris puts all of us into total lockdown, which seems likely, it's going to be really tough....particularly with all this nice sunny weather!

I'm afraid we'll all have to get used to the idea - and not for 12 weeks either, more likely 6 months minimum, then we'll all be allowed out for 5 minutes before being locked down for another 6 months. Not funny but it will happen. :(:(

In the USA pubs are now suddenly allowed to sell booze curbside. Inside or outside drinking probably makes no real difference. Non English speaking owner pubs and restaurants are doing business as usual here today. No comprenda senoir.

If you go the same way as us all that will soon change....we are in virtual lockdown now, only allowed out once a day for exercise or to get supplies, no more than two people together. This to be enforced by police.
The bastard of it all is, that after months of rain....we now have sunny weather!
