HI potential newbie to triumph ownership here. am normally and adventure bike rider but have seen one of these up for sale that is reasonably priced and appears in good condition 31k on the clock from 2003 and comes with FSH Havent seen it live yet but just wondered on ownership thoughts? I know you are all triumph mad but some honest opinions would be great! I don't get to ride often and this explains the limited budget. for the same cash I cant but an adventure bike that excites at all so am considering this - at least I get a little thrill when I open the garage door instead of seeing something bland any opinions on handling, seating position, reliability? Cheers
A 955 Sprint ST is a very quick, comfy, reliable, economical touring and everyday machine. When it came out it was tested against the VFR of the day and smacked it's arse. It's a very good bike.
Sprint 955s are a damned great bike. Many say better then the 1050. they are fast, handle well, comfy. Just make sure the battery is top notch or the sprag clutch can fail. if you go to see the bike check engine is cold first, very important, and see how it starts. He may have warmed it upto make it easier, a cold start will give you some indication of the condition. if it labours or any weird sounds like screeching I would think hard and walk on, there are plenty of others about. test ride and check for brake pump, another issue sometimes. Is it clean and serviced, have valves been done, this is a 12000 mile check and can cost a bit if not done. The bike may struggle to fire with badly adjusted valves too. Otherwise generally follow your instinct. Good luck and welcome
rjt all Triumphs are great because there a lovely bit of British engineering and design, fly the flag and enjoy, you will be sorry if you miss the opportunity of owning one believe me.
Hi RJT, had a Cub back in the 1960's, and eventually came back to them now I'm grown up. Jump in and enjoy the forum.
Hi, I'm jumping in here because I'm also hopefully in the market for a Sprint 955. Can someone explain what "brake pump" is?
Jumping back on this after many absent years!! Bikeless currently, but looking again at a 1999 Sprint ST. Bike looks in great condition but has 64k miles on the clock - should this put me off buying? I would always normally go for sub 30k mile bikes..... Appreciate any advice!
Hi rjt, was going to say something about reviving an old thread but as it's yours it's a fair one. I take it the Sprint never happened back in the day?
i did briefly get a daytona and whilst i liked the engine it made my hips hurt. Had given up biking for a bit (small kids) but want to tour again with a mate and stumbled across what looks like a lovely one within my small budget but it has this high mileage....
