Any one tried and completed a plastidip re spray? Gonna start on on my 2016 red scrambler in the next couple of weeks and wondered if anyone had any completed projects or disasters to share James
If you go here to Delboys Garage on Youtube you see several videos on using this type of product, on bikes.
Thanks big lad, watched them - hoping some boys and girls on here have had whirl at it. Guess I'll have to an post it up.
my son has used it successfully on his cars alloy wheels and roof quite resilient and peels off without damage when he changes his mind
I used Plastidip on the flyscreen on my 2007 Bonneville - worked great. Minimal preparation required, just a clean wax-free surface. Does not require an undercoat. Spray on like its ordinary rattle can spray paint and give the surface at least three coats. Just a tip: Heat the can contents before using by placing the can in a container of hot water - this makes it easier to keep the flow even Cheers Gary
Ive used plasti dip quite a few times now. My tips are prepare area and make sure its clean. Apply approx 4-5 coats and keep can a good distance away from item spraying for even coverage and most importantly ensure temperature is correct..... ive had a part turn out with a rough finish after applying in shed when it was about 10 degrees, but when in garage about 20 degrees its perfect
Thanks guys, got the first batch cleaned and prepped. Tank, rear guard, rear indicators and chain guard after this lot. Black on the indicators, heat shield and headlight grill Pearl white fleck on all the tank, mudguards and panels.
Tez So far the May black looks excellent and easy to paint, no issue quick coverage and dries lovely , the pearl white? Er not 100% convinced I've done a good job so far , small hairs and bobbles here and there. Can't sand it back and can't wipe solvents over each coat so the jury is out. Still a bit of fun and I'll persevere. I'm adding some new and differnt stickers to make it po. Tank front and back guard to do. Here is some pics
Have you painted those shocks James or are they new ones? I reckon they look lickably lovely !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No they are new stock ones from TEC, tried to paint the canister but as they are fine ribbed they wanted non of it lol.
Good effort sir! Like that white effect , did you use the primer before or straight on with the plastidip? Id ordered the glossifier to protect it, but can got lost in post so never found out how good it was Kev
Thanks for the update and pictures James, looks a good job to me well done, out of interest how many coats did you put on them ?
Hello Tez the black- 3 straight coats The pearl is 3 grey, 3 white, 2 pearl and after stickers -2 clear. Sounds a lot but it covers really quick so you don't use much - so far I have only used 2 tins
Hello Kev So far one coat or glossifier doesn't appear to make any difference, now I have the stickers on I'll give it another coat or two
Well adding the last coat or glossifier hasn't made much difference to the appearance, but did attract every bit of fluff within my postcode area to stick to it. I've fitted some of the bits back on to get a feel for the look. Question is as I'm changing the shock for black ones- do I paint the guard before the sticker or just add the sticker
