A few times I have seen pedestrians miming twisting the throttle at me. Just wondering if anyone else has had this?

My guess is that they are either asking me to rev the bike or they are bikers themselves and they are acknowledging another biker in a similar way to a nod.

Is this a thing, or just random?

I've had it twice recently, a young lady in her early twenties about 6 months ago and two early teenage boys about two weeks ago. Its probably some ridiculous social media thing; Oops did I just show my age?:(

Young lads do it here all the time - just wanting to hear the exhaust sound at high revs..... Sometimes I do.... Sometimes I don't!! :imp:

Ive had it form "schoolkids" occasionally. I usually acknowledge their request with an extremely gentle touch to the throttle, just enough for them to know ive seen their request but leave them wanting more. Its great seeing the abject disappointment on their faces.

Try doing it with a bog standard Euro restricted exhaust!

Years ago when gestures came from youngsters I interpreted it as to pop a wheelie Or give it some noise on the throttle but nowadays I'm not so sure as the younger generation rarely lift their gaze from their screens

I get this a quite lot on the dirt bike, from young kids but then it's probably the sort of bike they prefer to nick.

The modern exhaust is definitely better to listen to than the loud pipe idiots.

A rev from a rev isn't something that happens every day!

Well this thread was straight in my head on Saturday when bringing the Honda back from its first service I had the twisty gesture from three lads at the side of the road. Despite the horrifically ugly but neighbour friendly back box i duly obliged. The advantage of the quiet pipe was despite ear plugs i could hear the big cheer they gave me! Made me smile too

This happens frequently in the village I live in, almost always is is pupils coming home from school, oddly enough it is more the girls that do it, usually in groups playing up to each other, so I do oblige, but not to anti socially.

The best throttle request I've had came from a little boy on a bicycle. We were coming into a tiny, one-stop sign town when a little boy riding on the sidewalk gave the wrist twist signal; so, of course, I obliged. Then, as we pulled away from the one stop sign making a lefthand turn, he popped out on the other sidewalk and pumped the pedals on his bicycle as hard as he could to "race" us out of town. I hope it was as fun for him as it was entertaining for us. I look for him now every time we go through there.

I thought part of basic motorcycling rules was the imperative to indulge all kids' requests for attention, either with a twist or a wave.

I was also asked from some pedestrians and also my colleagues to do some twisting actions on my Rocket. BUT: The new Rocket is throttled in idle mode at about 1.500 to 2.000 rpm You have to pull the clutch and shift into first gear. Only after that you are able to "twist" above. ;)
