Due to being lazy and not wanting to mess about wiring in my optimate to my battery direct, I thought I'd ask if anyone uses the accessories socket to keep the battery topped up?
For info 2011 america digital speedo..
    Cheers,

Hi Andy, I used to do this with my 2010 Bonny Efi, then the KTM1190 and now the Tiger 955i. I don't have an Optimate but an Aldi special charger (same thing but with an LCD screen to give voltage read-outs).

Thanks, looking at the wiring diagram I think the accessories socket just goes through a couple of fuses f3 and f11 I'm sure of their current rating but from memory I think the smallest fuses are 5A so I think they should be able to cope.

The way I looked at it was this: it's a permanent live which is good and is sufficiently strong enough to plug in heated clothing so it must be able to cope with a charging current of 1.5amps

    Accessories socket?
This is interesting, forgive my ignorance, but where is this to be found?

In old money the ciggy lighter? I use the optimate plug. It stays in and you can get USB adaptors etc for it

The accessory socket which is next to the ignition switch on my Tiger 800xc is permanent live.

I've got a couple of optimates and usually hook one up to the acc socket during winter.

Thanks all, I need to have a look around my Bonneville Newchurch to see if it has one, almost certainly will not, I'm guessing!

Hi Curly, on my 2010 T100 there was a lead which terminated in a black plug, with one contact horizontal and one vertical. I found it on my bike near the throttle bodies on the RHS of the bike.

This plug fitted directly onto the back of a socket I bought off Ebay, which I fitted onto the frame with a small home-made bracket.

Thanks biglad, I'll have a good look around for it. Can't say as I've seen anything obvious though when looking around.
