Back in 2001, the Speed Triple came in a lurid pink that Triumph called “Nuclear Red.” I always thought it was a perfect Speed Triple color. The Speedy has been around for so long that it’s easy to forget how unusual the Speed Triple looked in the late nineties with the two round headlights. Belligerent, fast, and sexy, it didn’t look like anything else. So what better color for it than neon pink? “Yeah, my bike is pink. You wanna make something of it?” Does anyone know the paint code for nuclear red? Or the DuPont or BASF match for the factory color?
Nu-Agane in Bedford sell it. It’s a 3 stage paint, ground coat, Pearl base and lacquer. I know because I’ve just ordered some.
What are you painting, Captain? I’m going to paint my Speed Twin nuclear red. Just picked up the new tank decals on Friday. Great thing about a respray on the Speed Twin is that the only thing to paint is the tank. The fenders are aluminum, the side covers are black on all of the colorways. Sorry, colourways
Im doing a TT/S4 hybrid. I inadvertently trashed my nose cone while prepping it for paint and due to the rarity of good replacements I decided to go unfaired. So I’ve got the tank, 3 rear panels and front mudguard to do. Should look bloody awesome when done.
No harder than anything else. It’s just another coating. Prime then wet sand, panel wipe and tack off. 2-3 coats Ground coat then repeat wet sand panel wipe and tack. 2-3 base coat, final fine wet sand wipe and tack then 3 coats of 2k clear.
Had the first stage done yesterday and it’s looking great! A bit more red at the minute but the pink effect will come in with the Pearl metallic once that goes in. It’s bloody lovely! Just a sample so far.
A mate had a factory-painted Nuclear Red Tiger Tiger 900 (Steamer) As he said at the time, if that colour was good enough for Natalie Imbruglia...
