Rode home from Leicester tonight, noticed at 1930hrs bright orange lights in the sky either side of the sun. The sky was blue with little cloud, anyone else see these bright patches in the sky? Vanished by 2000hrs.
Could it have been a solar halo, that’s a circular “rainbow” around the sun, sometimes they can be incomplete giving a view similar to what you describe. Tweet Paul the weather man, he’ll know.
Foo Fighters (Not the band but that's what they're named after) - 2WW allied pilot slang for strange lights seen whilst flying sorties over Europe and the Pacific theatres.
This sounds about right to me. Mrs Curly reckoned there was a whole circle around the sun but I couldn't see that, just 2 bright orange patches either side of it but not too close to it. I saw it prior to putting helmet on with naked vision, very interesting it was.
