Well I'm a fairly amiable chap and generally recognise fellow motorcycling chaps and chapesses riding in the opposite direction with a friendly nod, however, there seems to be an increasing habit of snobbery among a lot of them where it's not returned, has anyone else noticed this???
Not as bad as dickheads washing their screen when you're behind them I don't even wash mine with a car behind me!
Quite funny really, whilst on this years GMU Saturday rideout I was following Tim (roadrider) on his BMW GSA when a BMW rider traveling in the opposite direction ignored all the other riders except Tim. He didn’t nod or give a friendly wave to Tim,,,,,,,,,, he raised his hand and gave Tim a full on salute Maybe he didn’t know WWII had finished
I'm like a fecking nodding dog (leaners, small bike, harlies, trikes, scooter, cars, vans, ooops) could be the twitch though might have to go to the European leg out less stress on the neck
i still wave and probably 90% up here wave back. unless i'm in the middle of a corner then i'll give them a nod. GS riders are usually in the 10% who don't wave back , i've noticed recently there have been more and more bikers here adopting the europeon habit of sticking the leg out instead of waving
here in the US, if you are riding in a group and the rider in front of you sticks his/ her leg out, left side or right side, that means there is a hazard on the road, like a pothole or some debris. We also alert riders on opposite side of road that they are coming to a copper using radar on the side of the highway by reaching up to your helmet and tapping the top.
Ditto for GS and Harley riders in SA, I don't even nod when I see one approach anymore. I always give a finger/thumbs signal when passing other riders in the same direction too.
On my ride home from the gmu I reckon I got about a 10% response from my waves, nods. maybe it’s just not a thing people do anymore as biking is more of a novelty than a necessity! After all what’s the point in waving when you’re on you’re monthly Sunday morning 30 mile round trip
I've just got back on a bike after 15 years and was wondering why so few riders greet each other these days. I'm sure it was more common, but then it may just be rose tinted spectacles.
I rode from Seaham to Whitby this morning, and every bike I passed either nodded or waved, it helped to make my day
I'm surprised how many nod's/waves I get from bigger bikes even on my 125 PCX, but then again the Scots tend to have more manners I believe . In the 'old days' other bikers used to stop to see if a biker needed assistance, but the days you probably need to watch its not a trap to hi-jack your bike!
Overhere we predominantly wave, and some nod - usually when standing still at a light, having hold of the clutch. When you get overtaken quite often the right foot is taken off the peg. When I was out yesterday I got greeted by every bike except for the Hardly Ablesons. I just don't understand what it is with those people.
I guess when i was young and riding we were on a bike for the love of motorcycling not as a "pose" statement. I still nod to one and all , get a few back, mainly from old buggers like myself .
Thought it was only me that was paranoid! Chances are they don't even know you're there, and if they did they wouldn't even give a thought to whether they might be giving you a soaking.... No, I'm definitely not paranoid.
What type of salute.... ? May be we should try that type of salute when passing BM's... might get a response.
