Hi everyone. Having just registered I am here to say hello and apologise in advance for any unintentional rule deviations. I’m sure you set me straight. I’m from Hull and particularly interested in Speed Twins from the early ‘50’s. My father had one back in his courting days and I’m looking to locate one now to help bring a serious smile to an old fellas face. Well I say old, he’s only 87 so im looking for a spring hub for a spring chicken really. Any help would be appreciated. All the best, AndrewJ
So Yorkshire, should I now post the question on a different thread to aid this search do you think? Or would most see it on the newbie bit? Any advice appreciated.
Hi, Right now I’d just be amazed to find the right model. My fathers was a 1953 sprung hub with seating for 2. I searched every remaining record at City Halls etc. to see if his old bike still exists but records are really bad from back then and they don’t exist now. His reg was EEE232 . I also searched classic bike websites etc. but even that model seems not to be around much now. Hence why I hoped someone on here would have an idea. If I can find one for sale great. If not for sale, it would be amazing just to take him to see one still alive (the bike AND my father that is!). It’s kind of my mission. At 87, times not particularly on my side - and the bikes aren’t getting any younger either! So anyone who can point me in the right direction would be hugely appreciated. Cheers, Andrew
Andrew - I can THOROUGHLY recommend that you take your dad to the National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull. I'm confident they'll have an example - beautifully restored - of the SH Speed Twin. Even if they don't have one he'll (you'll both!) have a ball walking round there recognising all of the bikes of his youth and era and he'll, no doubt, regale you with tales of "the ones (his) mates rode - just like that one!" It's a must see place for ANY lover of British motorcycles and will be well worth what will, dooubtless, be a long journey. Make it an overnight and go to the Jaguar Heritage Museum in Gaydon, too! Good luck with your search. Hope you find the right one. Regards, Adie
Welcome too the Asylum you should fit right in. What a great story hope you find what you are looking for. Tucker
