Just picked up a one owner 2816 mile T595 from my mate who has always promised me first refusal. Not been on the road for 11 years and 7 years before that, and as you can imagine the wheel paint and fork bottoms look tired. I have previously powdercoated my Fireblade wheels in metallic anthracite and this would be my choice again but with the originality and low miles is satin black advisable. I also like high gloss silver? Also anyone know the best paint for Fork bottoms?
Made a start. Wheels and fairing brace going for powder coat, forks gotta be stripped and overhauled.
That's a lovely looking example of that bike. There's some TLC required but you are off to a good start
Cheers bud, it’s my third T5/955i and I’ve owned a Speed Triple so I’m looking forward to this being finished.
Got my dash panel and fairing supports off, powder coat was all peeling. Got them re-coated and my soo ok are wheels done in silver so I still have the originals for posterity. Got my rear walls mute and front spindle re-zinc’d and polished up the speedo head. My discs are in for chemical stripping before repainting. Turned a captive spacer on the lathe and rebuilt the forks once I’d knocked up a couple of fork rebuild tools (seal driver and damper rod holder) on the lathe.
Looking very nice, you seem to know what you're doing so should be a very nice example once you've finished
Cheers Ade, been riding for 30 years and restoring for 20 plus. Also this is my 3rd 595/955 and 1 x speed triple too so I know my way around them. I blew up my 1st T595 at 24k, when it spun a rod bearing from too many revs and too little oil I’ll be sure to update this thread as I go. Cheers Lyn
Got my fasteners back from my platers after 8 wks and still not done! Hit them with the wire wheel then with my old Creusen polisher. A marked improvement although a few areas even though shiny are devoid of chrome. I also got the last 4 from Channel Islands Triumph in St Helier, Jersey. A mate is currently trying to source some from the states for me. Anyway, here’s the pics. They’re now soaking in Bulldog BDX.
Also got my discs back from the dip tank so decided I’d polish the centres. I like it but feel it’s gonna be a lot of work keeping on top of them. I’m not gonna lacquer them, I’ll just see how it goes. Still got one to do.
I seem to have found myself (after getting bored whilst sitting around offshore) to be the new owner of a non running 98 T595, once again in Tornado Red which was last on the road in 2018! If I can get it running I’ll probably street fighter it (a tornado red matching T509 might be nice) once my other one is finished, or even flip it or break it, but that would be the last option. It’s not as clean as it looks with 34k on it.
Never realised I hadn’t updated this since the brake discs. got the front end back together along with SBS Sintered pads and mopped the front mudguard and powder coated rims with new boots.
Planned to rebuild the fuel pump assy and ordered the fuel filter and hoses only to find they no longer sell the shaped pipe on the early T595 10 bolt pump, so ordered a solid piece Hoping that it’ll work. Here’s the outcome I also bought some 8mm fuel pipe and some pipe bending springs hoping I could make my own. I used a bender and some heat from a heat gun set to around 400 degrees then left it cool. Took out the spring to do the other end, put in a smaller spring as it was all I had then tie wrapped it to retain it’s shape overnight then done the same again.This was the outcome. Well, I still have another pump to rebuild.
