Hi all, just recently passed my full licence at the young age of 54 , I know I should have done it years ago lol. I bought a 2000 model tiger 900. Already put a post in the technical section so hoping that I can get advice from those vastly more experienced than me.
NGL67 Welcome to the family. Great photo of the bike and you mentioned advise but didn't say what you needed to know so pray do let us all know and the sensible ones here in the asylum will get back to you. Joe.
Nice looking girlie tiger. The first Tigers were nicknamed steamers and the injected ones like yours were nicknamed girlie's, it isn't an insult. Lol. See it has been sprayed and has the old 70s version of the Triumph logo. Your engine is basically the same as my T509, 885cc.
Welcome! I am the same age but have been riding since I was 15. I still hope to have 20+ years of biking ahead of me.
Hi thank you, i posted my query on the technical page, I'm having problems sourcing a thermostat and housing, apparently they're discontinued.
Hi @NGL67 nice clean looking Tiger , clean those header pipes with oven cleaner ! 10% acid and they will look like new to go with the new looking bike !!
Hi, as you can figure I'm new to all this lol, I'm now curious as to how the nickname girlie's came about, I've seen others called steamers but as yet not figured that one out either. Still trying to locate a thermostat for mine but no luck as yet, had a helpful tip that some Toyota Yaris thermostat may fit, just hoping when i get the housing off there's one in there for comparison lol
The first Hinckley carburetted Tigers were called "Steamers" - in part because of their almost agricultural proportions and appearance, but also to distinguish them from the later, fuel injected models .... the first of which were called "Girlies" because the top half fairing had what appeared to be "eyebrow" decals over eye shaped headlights. Simples.
