Greetings to all..just getting started in larger road bikes and Triumphs have always caught my eye...live in Harley land but don't much care for them... looking at '06 & '07 Scramblers and an '01 Thunderbird..all with less than 3,500 miles and all look like show room bikes..joined specifically to research differences in models and get a feel for fair pricing....1st post ever on any of the various forums I've been known to frequent so please be gentle if you feel like chiming in. Get the thunderbird ! It will be going up in value soon and the early T300 motorsm were great reliable beasts. If you want more performance from the T300 motorcycles thersth plenty that can be done, and most of them are hidden non visible mods !! I had 94 Trident, same motor frame and similar style it was a great ride...!
Hello there. Back in October, I bought my 06 Scrambler. It came loaded up with a lot of goodies. I bought mine off craigslist for 5K. With just over 9K on the clock, she is in tip top shape and runs like a clock. I was surprised at the power, or lack of. I was expecting a little more from a 900, but it is what it is. Overall, I am a happy camper and very much into all the recent retro bikes. Hope this helps and good luck with your decision!
Thanks to all...leaning towards T-Bird... actually a little more bike than I need for running around, but I know it will be far superior on the open round, & if the $$$$$ is about the same why not get more than you need. Thanks again for reconfirming what I think I already knew. Will definitely post pics if I'm able to make the deal.
Thanks again to all for your input..bought T-Bird last night dented gas tank and all..$2,500 American..guy just wanted it out of the way to make room for incoming Harley, plus we couldn't get it started as it had not been run in over a year, feel like I got pretty sweet deal...small downside..not exactly showroom, but awfully nice for 17 years old Went straight to dealer this morning & found out I'd be waiting a month before they could look at, told them how it wanted to turn over but just couldn't quite make it. They said I'm probably looking at rebuilding carb...so it looks like I'm now in the bike mechanic business. Bought new plugs while at dealer thinking that might be an easy fix...looks like there's nothing easy about it..pull tank.. maybe special tool?..put that one on hold for now. Pumped out old gas, replaced with new gas & SeaFoam and with a little more cranking it actually fired up!!!!! AND SOUNDS REALLY GOOD. Oil light came on..took nearly a full quart to get oil to middle of sight glass (HATE, HATE,HATE THOSE THINGS), no dip stick on this model. Now I've got to figure out why I'm running hot..temp gauge comes on within a couple of miles..bike doesn't seem to be set up like downloaded owners/service manual describes & looks like I'll have to pull plate around the shifter area to find & fill reservoir, or maybe it's a sensor.. needless to say it won't get any road time until I can figure out what all needs to be done for a do it yourself full service..oil change, coolant flush and change, crank case/gear box change etc. Don't have any idea on service history so figure it's best to do it all at once. Now I'll be looking for side case/saddle bag ideas.. dealer had zip zero nada.. everything on eBay is from Germany, China or Hong Kong. Tips and points in the right direction greatly appreciated.
