Glad to be here! Based in the central/northern US, looking for a preowned Tiger, which would be my first bike. Hoping to ride the Rockies and deserts in the western states. Looking forward to learning and contributing here!
Welcome. What Tiger do you have your sights on? I love mine but there are gripes, little ones, but what bike is perfect in this day and age? What do you ride currently?
Tigers are pretty popular and I don't see many for sale used. I have two dedicated street bikes (2011 Sprint GT 1050 and the 2013 Trophy SE in my cover photo). I found that I enjoyed riding when I could carry the bike to a destination and ride locally upon arrival, sparing me the slab-riding and long distances. The photo here was from Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado (Continental Divide at 12,000'). I've also enjoyed riding around Bryce, Zion, Grand Staircase Escalante and other places in Utah. The drive from NJ (home) is much more tolerable in my pickup with the bike in the back! Good luck finding your ride and be safe!
Thanks for the welcome! I am targeting a 2022-2023 Tiger Sport 660. What are your gripes? I want to start a new thread in the Tiger section, but don't seem to be able to do this. Is there a message or time requirement for new members to create threads? Thanks.
Not sure on requirements, seemed I was able to post there right away but that was a while ago. Gripes are the T-plane engine vibration. Was painful on the 900, still there on my 1200 but just annoying levels, no pain. The "dash" display on my 1200 is devoid of important information, like engine temp, yes, you can view that but it takes your eyes off the road to go through several menus to JUST display coolant temp. Now if you want to see your speed, you have to menu back to the main screen. BAD design. So shocked that by now they haven't flashed that into a better system. I know NOTHING about the 660, never looked at them. But stay away from ANY Triumph T-plane (or almost any T-plane design) if you like smooth. Be sure to get a demo ride no matter what you decide on. Good luck!
Thanks for the comment. Google says the 660 doesn't use a T-plane crankshaft. Need to read more to see if Google is correct.
The 660 is a capable bike. Mine used a lot of oil (it well reported on the 660 forum), so I moved mine on for a 900 gt pro. Triumph have fixed the vibration on the new version of the tiger.
Fixed? According to their own words for the 2024 Tiger 1200 they were able to do some more refining on the balancing/counter balancing but it's still going to have more vibration than a non-T-plane crank motor. The real question is why does a rather large displacement motor that already stalls quite easily need T-plane in the first place? The answer is it's a gimmick. Something different to "sell" the idea to a gullible customer. The 2024 Tiger 900 RP I rode for several hundred miles as a loaner while my clutch snafu was getting sorted out was VERY buzzy...very happy to take my slightly smoother 1200 back.
