Hi, I joined the sight sometime ago and have been lurking whilst looking for a speed triple.
This is my second Hinckley Triumph, the first being a early Thunderbird back in the mid 90’s, a nice bike but with issues in my opinion. Those being, needing a sixth gear, lack of adjustment on the rear shock (harsh, choppy ride), carrying to much weight compromising the single front disc and rather thirsty for the modest performance. The following Thunderbird sport dealt with some of the issues but I was ready to move on by then.
I test rode the 1050 Speed triple when they first came out and wanted one immediately. If I could have afforded one back then I would have riden back to the dealers and bought it that day!
Since then I have had numerous other bikes but always still desired an SP. After turning 55 I cashed in a pension and decided to buy myself one. The “new” shaped SP doesnt do it for me so I tracked down 2010 SE model, the last of the round headlights.
The bike I swapped for it was a 1150 BMW GS. Damned good bike for touring on, was sad to see it go, but they are big heavy beasts not much fun for short blasts.
Obviously a huge difference to the SP so it’s taking awhile to get my head around riding in a totally different style. The triumph’s so much quicker and lighter, but I do miss the comfort of the BM (I did mention I was 55 ).
Loving the SP so far but I have one issue. I notice the back light seemed alittle loose so attempted to tight it up. I took the grab rail off (Triumph part) to get at the bolts for the rear light and nipped them up, all good. But when I refitted the grab rail, tighting the 4 bolts for it seemed to force the grab rail down onto the rear light surround which pressed onto the light causing it to appear loose again. After a bit of head scratching I “packed” the grabrail up using a couple of washers. Bingo! Problem solved. That was until I tried to refit the seat and it wouldn’t click into place The washers raised the grabrail just enough (2mm approx) to stop the seat attaching. So off they came and I’m left with a wobbly rear light.
It isn’t bad but just annoying. Has anyone else experienced the problem?
    Any advice appreciated.
    Sam.

    Hi and welcome
I am looking to get a 2010 SE
Had one before but got knocked off and I let it be auctioned by the insurers, wish I had kept it now, as I prefer it to the 2016 model I have
I went to look/buy one yesterday but it was sold just as I turned up

Hi Sam and welcome to the forum! Could you not space the seat bracket slightly to compensate for the spacing of the grab rail ? Otherwise check to see if anything is bent causing this frustration. Hope you come right

BEDF2ECE-30D7-43C1-8075-D4EFDA371C5E.jpeg Hi and welcome, I’ve just re-read your post and the issue you are having with the grab rail and rear light and I got thinking. Does the rear plastic section have any cut outs where the grab rail fits. I fitted a Rentec rack last year and it uses the same four bolts under the seat where I believe your grab rail bolts to and the seller also sold me the black plastic light surround which he had modified to clear the rack by cutting where the rack goes under the seat. Neat job, and I have the original light surround to put back when the bike goes if I sell the rack separately.

    Hi, thanks for the reply’s.
Firstly it’s not the slower black version!

It is slightly different to Yorkshireman’s 2015 model.
Sorry the pics don’t show the issue very clearly. The plastic has been cut to accommodate the grab rail but surely Triumph didn’t design them expecting customers to to have to do this?
Although it has a tail tidy fitted, I don’t think this is causing the problem in anyway.
Once tightened down the grab rail is putting the plastic under pressure and has caused it to crack very slightly even though it has been cut. This then pushes on the rear light which then becomes loose and wobbles.
Not a big problem, just annoying, especially if it is a design fault,
