I am excited to get started in the world of Triumph! I'm a long-time Ducati guy, so things are a little different with a four under me versus a twin. A pleasure to meet you all! -D12E
No problem! I was on eBay and LOST a 1200SE #12/250 by $27! I was furious and determined to get a clean, low-mile Daytona 1200 or Daytona Super III...so this one popped up in NY owned by a very kind older gentleman who was downsizing his stable of bikes. I drove 14hrs through three states, and stayed up 26hrs for her, based upon his word and full disclosure of minor scratches on the lower fairings and little else needing tending to. I had faith the m/c was as he said, and he didn't disappoint. She's not perfect, but has under 7k original miles. I am the 3rd owner. Haven't even gotten to ride her yet. Only heard her run twice...she is in storage until Spring. I just want to put some new Pirellis on her, replace the rusty reservoir screws with stainless ones, an OEM seat and seat cowl in yellow, and she will be pretty close to perfect for me. She is a very, very big girl (I'm accustomed to air-cooled Ducatis)...and I have never paid so much for a used m/c before. I hope the D12 is worth the legends I hear about them: turbine-smooth engine, overbuilt block, crisp gearbox, stable at speed, etc...Spring will reveal all!
Also, I am collecting as many OEM/NOS consumable parts as I can find so I can keep her running happy long-term. Hermys's is saved to my bookmarks, and Sprint Manufacturing as well, but their site doesn't let me place an order unless I'm in the UK??? I'd love to spend 500+ GB pounds with them, but they do not respond to any emails or calls...?
"Also, I am collecting as many OEM/NOS consumable parts as I can find so I can keep her running happy long-term." You and me both - although I'm after Trident, Speed and 750 Daytona parts ..... though very many are interchangeable. Which brings me to a point - and I hope you don't think I'm doing the "parking lot nosepicker" thing by pointing out that your very lovely Daytona apperars to have the 'wrong' indicators. They look like Triumph ones but from, I think, a later Sprint. The early Daytonas had the same types as the Trident and Speed Triple and should (I THINK!) look like these :- https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Triumph-...tor-NEW-Carb-Model-Sprint-Sport-/291350199210 thhough the stem length differs front and back. What year is your Daytona? BTW, I've responded to your post about the SPRINT seat cowl but, just to be clear, I'll happily do the intermediary bit for you if you're happy to cover the costs. That IS a beautiful looking bike and a lovely colour.
Daytona1200Express Welcome to the family. You did find a real beauty there. The beastie isn't even run in yet. Now you have someone to help with the bits. But do like Ron on here does contact as many of your breakers as you can get to and see what they have lying about. Thanks for sharing the terrific pictures of the steed. Joe.
Oh yes, friend! Thank you! If Sprint will not respond to me, I would be happy to get any help you can provide. I've already looked at the local breakers, and all they have is Harley and Japanese Metric stuff, 99% of the time. eBay is where I get 99% of my Ducati 900SS parts, NOS/OEM, used stuff. I know the stock indicators of the CEV giant turn signals, and I know these are later ones. It I think is one of the few modifications I will concede for the D12. Hermys has been great for a 26 year old (1995) Daytona 1200. I ordered a spare airbox assembly, rubbers for both the carb airbox and cylinder head sides, 4 carb rebuild kits, a set of spark plug leads, lots of seals/gaskets, a clutch plate kit, valve cover seal set, flasher relay, stainless reservoir screws, water pump assembly, new stainless hose clamps to replace the originals...I just need a complete set of rubber coolant hoses...a new, spare coolant expansion tank, the cowl, OEM seat (on the way from a chap in the UK), new tires...then I should be set for a couple of years of just oil changes... Pictured are my other three bikes. I love my Ducatis. I have always loved the Hinkley modular Triumphs...I am glad to finally have one. The only way I would be happier is if I snagged a 1200SE with the alcon "TR-6" 6 piston front calipers, but oh well! I'm not complaining when I see this beauty staring back at me with those two lovely round headlights! She's such a pretty girl. Spring cannot arrive fast enough.
I agree, friend. The older Triumphs are just so cool. They don't build them like this anymore, that's for sure! Everything is simple, mechanical, analog, and mostly straightforward on this m/c versus most of the newer stuff. I don't need a quickshifter, linked brakes, bluetooth, heated grips, TFT screen, etc. Fuel injection is nice to have, though!
Greetings, and welcome to the forum, D12E! That's a beautiful bike you have there. Thanks for sharing the photos. Hope you enjoy the forum!
Thank you, Sandi. I am loving the forum so far---great people discussing great motorcycles. I cannot wait to ride the D12 this Spring for the first time. I'm very excited----an understatement!
