My alpinestars smx5's have been a good boot and are nearly 4 years old, the gear shift has now worn a hole through the leather so I guess its time to renew. I liked these boots, waterproofness was good and well tested, but not great for walking any distance in.
Been looking at Altberg from reading past posts. The clubman roadsters probably. Not cheap but seem to be worth it? I'd like something comfy enough you could walk a few miles in with no trouble. Also, how are they with sizing? I'll have to buy online. I see you can order different widths. Any problems regarding bulkiness and getting under the gear shift? Delivery times? I'll be needing a pair before Scotland.
    Any other suggestions welcome too.

There's a place not far from me that sells daytona's, must go try on a pair. Are they good for walking too? Might be too expensive though... unless they really are that good

I don't go hiking in them but they are all day comfy on the bike and for normal walking. I got mine from FC-moto in Germany as they were far cheaper there. If you do get them delivered by UPS;)

Love Daytona's, hated the Roadstars. Terrible fit across the foot.

Best boots I've had in nearly 40 years of riding. The price scared the bejesus out of me until I tried them, bloody brilliant, like a pair of old slippers and worth every penny imho.

My Altberg boots will be 20 years old this summer and are still seemingly indestructible. They are also excellent walking boots. But they were a bit big for under the gear lever on my Daytona 955i whilst being pretty well perfect for the Trident. The new Clubman boot looks less bulky than the type that I have (mine is the boot used to illustrate fitting in the motorcycle boot fitting section - the type with three velcro/leather flaps for fastening) which may be better still. Cost me just under £100 back in '98, so I would guess that by now they owe me nowt!:grinning:

    Good point!
Even my (semi)delinquent nephew couldn't destroy them when I let him borrow them! Heaven only knows where he'd been in them, but you could have planted spuds on/in them!

I could see Steve in a Babour. Wandering around his country estate. With all peasants tugging their forlocks & calling him Master Goolie :grinning:

Tried on quite a few today, Daytonas were good! I was given a pair of TCX X-tour evo to try. Almost identical to the Daytonas. Gore tex, same lining, same zip either side, calf adjustment etc. They actually fitted me better than the Daytonas. Supreme comfort and half the price! Only notable difference I could tell is they are a little heavier than the Daytonas. Couldn't ignore the fact I could buy 2 pairs for the price of the Daytonas, so I bought em! Maybe the quality isn't as good? I can't tell a difference?

My Altberg's aren't that old but are the best, most comfortable boot I've ever had. I've got some 50,000 miles on them and nary a scuff on the left toe where the shifter lives.
