After puting up with my head being rattled for too long by the stock Tiger 800 screen, I took it off (the screen, not my head). It's certainly much better (a smoother experience) without a screen, but I do notice the speed more. I felt I was 'making progress' along one of my favourite local roads, only to notice 55mph on the clock. So it's certainly licence preserving without a screen.

Also, I think the bike looks wrong, almost - well - broken, without a screen. I don't like it.

So, this morning I clicked 'confirm' on an order for an 18" Madstad screen (I'm 5' 10" on a good day). I'm hoping this is money well spent. Off on a bit of a tour in August, so we'll see...

    Hi Biker Jock.
I've tried 3 screens in total now & all of them have had little effect in reducing wind velocity/noise, but I have heard good things about the Madstad screens, so fingers crossed it`ll work out for you
    Tboy.

I have a 20" Madstad on my Tiger, and it's brilliant.

So the Madstad arrived this morning and fitted in the afternoon. Not very difficult at all. I've just returned from a test ride, including up to motorway speeds. I might get myself an open-face helmet after that. No buffeting, no brain rattle, but smooth airflow to keep me cool via the jacket vents. It really is a great solution to the stock screen.

Any downside? Well, yes. It's expensive. It's not as good looking (my opinion) as the stock screen. And because there is no wind noise now, I can hear all the other rattles, including (I think) the Madstad itself - I stopped and checked it was all tightened up ok, but there are still rattles. I put on the optional side deflectors, and I think they look a bit vulnerable.

But all-in-all, I'm really pleased with it. Bring on the next tour.

Have a 20" Madstad screen and the winglets fitted to my XC for 3 years and it's a big thumbs up from me.

Does it help the wind buffeting on the pillion? This seems to be a question that is never answered.

Can't answer that question crispey, my arms aren't long enough for me to hold the bars whilst sitting on the pillion seat :):)

I'm not going to be able to answer that one either, unfortunately. I haven't taken a pillion with the stock screen, and unlikely to do so with the new one. Good point, though.

Having fitted my 18" madstad screen to Tracey and been out on her I can honestly say it's great! Open visor at 80mph ( private road) wind noise and buffeting reduced. Took the missus out for the first time since fitting and she said the ride on pillion is greatly improved too. Damn good £50 spent!!
Also Managed to mount the tom tom so it's just above the clocks too!

I put 50,000 miles on a Madstad (moving it to a new Tiger along the way) and it was the best mod I made to my two Tigers. The winglet deflectors are nice, however, they're vulnerable and I broke the first pair in a fall. Sold the Tiger with the Madstad a few weeks ago and got a Bonnevile. Installed a Madstad on it yesterday (took about 5 minutes! A bit more on the Tiger.). Also, on the Tiger the mounting plate was a nice place to attach a Ram ball for mounting various GPS etc. The back of the screen was also a convenient place to put a big arrow, reminding me of which side of the road to ride when I flew it (and me) to the UK

PS - this photo is after 45k miles. A few scratches.
