Heres a bit of fun for all us budding mechs. Watch this vid and tell us why the bike wont start, then when he gets it started, winner gets a ...big smile to wear or a happy glow, or f all. Anyway, opinions? You can start about 9 mins in if you want. The bike was cutting out at heavier loads, higher revs, so he put on a larger petrol tap ( replaced homemade one).
He didn’t say if the plugs smelled of petrol when he took them out and assuming he’s not done anything else to the engine and it was running before I’d point at the carb. He’s got a spark and fuel into the float chamber so it would seem that the fuel isn’t getting through the carb properly. Anyone else??
Ive been watching this. It ran, although it stuttered when he gunned it. The bikes been sitting for 3 months (approximately).
Just gone back and had another look When he’s trying to start it after putting fuel in the tank it’s trying to back fire through the carb this is what makes me think...timing?? The spark plugs are working fine as best as I can tell .....I don’t think he needs new ones Has he had the bike running with this carb set up? or is it something that he’s trying?
The Carb is su I fitted one on a triton the oil in the plunger is to heavy it should be 3 in 1 or similar and you have to give throttle to start
Hes ridden it and it goes quite well not perfect, thats why hes put in a larger fuel tap. Have a look at 8.30 he starts it and 13.30 he rides it
Sorry for the short answer I got called out what I meant to say was it doesn't have one as it's a very old type of carb as fitted to triumph herald or v8 rovers etc.
I did wonder about the oil ( though I know nothing about it,he seemed to be changing his mind) I think jets are blocked with sitting.
You could be getting there as far as my memory goes the su only has one jet that's what made it so simple and therefore reliable if that jet was clogged it would be all through the range
I had this when I had the herald in the 70's, it was caused by using dirty petrol (JET),only certain cars with suitable carbs could use the 'dirty petrol'had to clean the jet with fuse wire the all was ok
